BB – We are talking today about “DELIGHT YOURSELF IN THE LORD”
So JT What does that title bring up to your mind? ((JT ANSWERS))
- Bob – POINT: Everything about the Lord Jesus Christ is delightful and will be as we fill our minds with HIm:
Galatians 2:20 (ESV) — 20 I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

JT – Question ONE - FROM THE SPIRITUAL SIDE OF LIFE….
- Explain the concept of “delighting in the Lord” and why that is so important.
- Bob
Philippians 3:1 (ESV) — 1 Finally, my brothers, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you is no trouble to me and is safe for you.
Philippians 4:4–7 (ESV) — 4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. 5 Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Psalm 91:1–4 (ESV) — 1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” 3 For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. 4 He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.
Song of Solomon 5:16 (ESV) — 16 His mouth is most sweet, and he is altogether desirable. This is my beloved and this is my friend, O daughters of Jerusalem.
DISCUSSION
- JT – Question Two… “FROM THE MENTAL ASPECT”
How can we mentally bring ourselves to delight ourselves in the Lord.
- Bob
Philippians 4:8 (ESV) — 8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
- Discussion
- Third question … Turning to the Physical
Sometimes we talk about physical activity as it connects to training, weight loss, or other reasons but some of our listeners are at the point of life where MOVEMENT is the key to survival. What do you have for them?
- Bob ---
Movement, in the form of physical activity or exercise, is crucial for maintaining overall health and well-being, both physically and mentally. It helps improve physical health by strengthening muscles and bones, maintaining joint health, and promoting better cardiovascular health. Additionally, movement contributes to mental well-being by reducing stress, improving mood, and boosting cognitive function.
Here's a more detailed look at why movement is important:
- Movement, especially resistance training, strengthens muscles and bones, reducing the risk of injuries and fractures.
- Regular movement helps maintain joint mobility and flexibility, reducing pain and stiffness.
- Movement, like cardio exercises, improves heart health, lowers blood pressure and cholesterol, and reduces the risk of heart disease.
- Physical activity helps burn calories, aiding in weight loss and maintenance.
- Regular movement can significantly reduce the risk of chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes, obesity, certain cancers, and cardiovascular disease.
- Movement releases endorphins, which have mood-boosting and stress-reducing effects.
- Physical activity helps combat anxiety and depression by increasing the levels of feel-good hormones.
- Movement improves blood flow to the brain, leading to better concentration, memory, and overall cognitive performance.
- Regular exercise can boost energy levels, making you feel more active and alert throughout the day.
- Practical Tips for Incorporating Movement:
- Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity aerobic activity per week, according to the World Health Organization.
- Whether it's walking, jogging, swimming, dancing, or playing sports, choose activities that you find enjoyable and sustainable.
- Use a standing desk, take short walks, or do stretches throughout the day.
- Walk to work or run errands, take the stairs instead of the elevator, or walk during phone calls.
JT’s Comments
Take Aways – JT …. And Bob
Bob’s final comment – It takes discipline to talk seriously with your doctor about signs of aging or sickness but think about the results that getting things in balance can do for you.
Point: DISCIPLINE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE --- in all aspects of life
