BB – We are talking today about “The Will Of Worship”
So JT What does that title bring up to your mind? ((JT ANSWERS))
- Bob – POINT: God places a will to serve Him and worship Him within us and it is our job to work it out….
Philippians 2:12–13 (ESV) — 12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.

JT – Question ONE - FROM THE SPIRITUAL SIDE OF LIFE….
In Psalm 9 you pointed out David’s four “I will-s” is that his ego as if he thought he was so important?
- Bob
Good question…
Luke 18:9–14 (ESV) — 9 He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and treated others with contempt: 10 “Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed thus: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I get.’ 13 But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’ 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”
Instead of thinking it’s David’s ego, think of it as David bringing his focus in line to what his heart is telling him.
Of course this is why I stated it’s a good preparation for worship, to get our focus in line.
DISCUSSION
- JT – Question Two… “FROM THE MENTAL ASPECT”
How can we mentally bring ourselves to be focus our wills to worship God?
- Bob
The entire book of Psalms would be appropriate but since we’re talking particularly about Psalm 9, I recommend a person start there.
Psalm 9:1–2 (ESV) — 1 I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart; I will recount all of your wonderful deeds. 2 I will be glad and exult in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.
- Discussion
- Third question … Turning to the Physical
Chris Carmichael wrote a recent blog on why cyclists don’t get faster, even though they seem to train harder and harder…. What did you think of that blog, and explain what he was saying.
- Bob --- He pointed out four big mistakes and what to do… of course this works for more than just cycling…
- The first thing involves your focus in training. Many people either don’t have a specific focus for a specific workout or they are outdated on what their focus should be. So the first recommendation is get serious about your focus for each training session.
- Your training zones are outdated – we all age up which means our zones are changing. Of course the better shape you are in changes your max HR zone, as well as your zone 2 so Chris recommends test regularly and updating where your various intensity zones are. It’s not all that complicated but it does require regular testing.
- You are getting faster because you are starving yourself with not enough food.
- You are not consuming enough carbohydrates daily or during workouts.
JT’s Comments
Take Aways – JT …. And Bob
Bob’s final comment – It takes discipline to reassess your training, cycling or any sport to see how your intensity levels, your focus, your eating, and your carbs are doing but the result could very well mean you step up in the SPEED category..
Point: DISCIPLINE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE --- in all aspects of life
