BB – We are talking today about “Where There Is No Vision”
So JT What does that title bring up to your mind? ((JT ANSWERS))
- Bob – POINT: If we aren’t careful, we can fall into the trap of avoiding God’s word, leading to the sad results….
Amos 8:11 (ESV) — 11 “Behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord God, “when I will send a famine on the land— not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord.

JT – Question ONE - FROM THE SPIRITUAL SIDE OF LIFE….
Are you saying we are perishing from a spiritual famine of the word of God?
- Bob
Yes I am. But as I say that would quickly sound the warning that the admonition from Proverbs 29:18 is for any time in any place. Whenever people are lacking the word of God for whatever reason – they turn to their own devices and that is never good for anyone.
Those words I quoted in the blog from the book of Amos are very striking…
Amos 8:11 (ESV) — 11 “Behold, the days are coming,” declares the Lord God, “when I will send a famine on the land— not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord.
The famine for the word of God can be as simple as people not reading the word, not attending to the preaching of the word, or as is the case many times, people hear the word or read the word but refuse to act on the word. Hence God gives them over to their ways and the result is a famine of the word of God. From there, it gets worse.
The solution as I pointed out in the blog is that each of us who see the problem correct the problem with us, before sling rocks at other people, by pointing out their failures.
How precious is God’s word to us? Do we take it for granted?
(((Illustration of Charlie)))
Psalm 119:16 (ESV) — 16 I will delight in your statutes; I will not forget your word.
DISCUSSION
- JT – Question Two… “FROM THE MENTAL ASPECT”
How can we mentally bring ourselves to appreciate and make the most of God’s word?
- Bob
Read Psalm 119. 176 verses broken into sections … so read 1 section per day because it’s all about God’s word…. And how precious it is to the psalmist. This will give us a clue in how to mentally approach the word of God.
Psalm 119:9 (ESV) — 9 How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word.
Psalm 119:11 (ESV) — 11 I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
Psalm 119:16 (ESV) — 16 I will delight in your statutes; I will not forget your word.
Psalm 119:50 (ESV) — 50 This is my comfort in my affliction, that your promise gives me life.
Just a few…
Discussion
- Third question … Turning to the Physical
What’s up with short burst exercises relieving stress?
- Bob ---
When you put stress on your body through exercise, even for a short time, you trigger physiological changes, says Malia Blue, an assistant professor of exercise and sport science at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Even small doses of activity can increase blood flow and improve the body’s ability to regulate blood-sugar levels. Over time, these changes could reduce your risks for conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, and stroke, Blue says.
When your muscles are active, they also release compounds that can improve the health of organs throughout your body, says Kevin Murach, an assistant professor at the University of Arkansas who researches muscle biology.
Plus, by getting up and moving—even for just a minute—you’re interrupting sedentary time, Blue says. Research has shown that sitting too much is bad for your health, and that replacing virtually any amount of sedentary time with movement is beneficial. “There’s a kind of a twofold [benefit]: if you break up your sedentary time and you increase your physical activity, you’re going to see health benefits from both,” Blue says.
JT’s Comments
Bob’s final comment – It takes discipline to get up out of your chair and move, but the results of lowering your stress level can be great.
Point: DISCIPLINE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE --- in all aspects of life
