BB – We are talking today about “The Joy Of Sacrificial Service”
So JT What does that title bring up to your mind? ((JT ANSWERS))
- Bob – POINT: When we talk about the joy of sacrificial service we have to think of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the joy He had in His ultimate sacrifice for us…
Hebrews 12:1–3 (ESV) — 1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.

JT – Question ONE - FROM THE SPIRITUAL SIDE OF LIFE….
Are you saying that any service we render that is not sacrificial is unacceptable?
- Bob
Yes and No…. let’s break it down.
To follow the Lord Jesus Christ means to deny yourself… SELF DENIAL is a form of sacrificial service.. (((examples)))
Too often people look for a non-self sacrificial way to render service to the Lord as in something out of convenience. ((examples – giving off the top that doesn’t take any effort, sometimes mercy giving is non sacrificial simply by writing a check to support ---- (((example)))
Matthew 10:42 (ESV) — 42 And whoever gives one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward.”
The joy of sacrificial service is service that has cost you – time, effort, use of talent, or money…
There is joy found in giving as God has given to us… and His giving as seen through the Lord Jesus Christ is sacrificial and we find joy in following that attitude.
DISCUSSION
- JT – Question Two… “FROM THE MENTAL ASPECT”
How can we mentally bring ourselves to look for the joy in sacrificial service and not be bogged down by the cost or by looking for self recognition?
- Bob
1 Chronicles 21:23 (ESV) — 23 Then Ornan said to David, “Take it, and let my lord the king do what seems good to him. See, I give the oxen for burnt offerings and the threshing sledges for the wood and the wheat for a grain offering; I give it all.”
It begins with our attitude and that attitude is formed from looking to the Lord Jesus Christ.
Discussion
- Third question … Turning to the Physical
What do you do when you are snowed in or bad weather keeps you from going to the gym?
- Bob ---
Fatigue Is What Builds Muscle, Not Just Heavy Weights
- Hypertrophy results when muscle fibers experience mechanical overload. When a muscle is fatigued, each muscle fiber must produce more force to complete the lift, thus increasing the overall mechanical load on the muscle. This, in turn, stimulates muscle growth.
What matters most for hypertrophy is that the muscle is trained to complete fatigue.
Why is this important?
- Because if you’re stuck at home, unless you have a killer home gym setup, what you can lift is limited to your body weight or whatever lighter weights you have on hand
- But the good news is, you still have two options for reaching maximum fatigue and building muscle:
Use a normal tempo but do more repetitions.
Use a slower tempo and do fewer repetitions.
JT’s Comments
Bob’s final comment – It takes discipline to get creative when you can’t get to the gym but you’ll keep your workout momentum going if you apply the concept of creative hypertrophy in getting a workout in when you can’t get out.
Point: DISCIPLINE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE --- in all aspects of life
