So JT What does that title bring up to your mind? ((JT ANSWERS))

  1. Bob – POINT: God is not a child abuser – but a loving Father who knows what is best for each of His children. His discipline is not meant to harm us, rather to draw us close to Him.

Revelation 3:19 (ESV) — 19 Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent.

JTQuestion ONE - FROM THE SPIRITUAL SIDE OF LIFE….

What is the common way and what is the right way to respond to God’s correction?

  1. Bob

Most common way to respond is to feel like we are getting something we do not deserve from God. Which, when you look at the word of God, is totally off the chart in a wrong response. Nevertheless, since that is common let’s break that down.

Deuteronomy 32:4 (ESV) — 4 “The Rock, his work is perfect, for all his ways are justice. A God of faithfulness and without iniquity, just and upright is he.

Psalm 136:1 (ESV) — 1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.

Psalm 136:1 (ESV) — 1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.

Isaiah 55:8–9 (ESV) — 8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Hebrews 12:7–10 (ESV) — 7 It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? 8 If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. 9 Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? 10 For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness.

Revelation 3:19 (ESV) — 19 Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent.

Psalm 139:23–24 (ESV) — 23 Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! 24 And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!

DISCUSSION

  1. JT – Question Two… “FROM THE MENTAL ASPECT”

How can we mentally bring ourselves to have a right attitude toward the Lord’s discipline?

  1. Bob

Keep in mind the great calling in life to be His ambassador on the earth. We represent our Father – the God of glory who has adopted us as His children and has ordained us to be His ambassadors. Since none of us are perfect, we all have rough edges that need His assistance to bring us into conformity… therefore out of love He disciplines us so that we might find His blessing.

Job 5:17 (KJV 1900) — 17 Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: Therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty:

1 Peter 1:6–7 (KJV 1900) — 6 Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: 7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

Revelation 3:19 (ESV) — 19 Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline, so be zealous and repent.

Discussion

  1. Third question … Turning to the Physical

Let’s talk running shoes… aren’t all running shoes the same? How does a person find the right running shoe for them?

  1. Bob ---

All running shoes are NOT the same. There are shoes that are basic cushion and there are degrees of cushion. There are stability shoes that keep you from over pronating, where your arch flattens out and your heel moves inward as you run. There is wide variety of degrees of stability in shoes from mild stability to a lot of stability. Then there are shoe degrees of the heel lift from basic flat – to a great deal of heal lift. That is just to name a few things that makes running shoes different from one to the other. Of course different brands fit your foot differently. And there is style … which is the amazing thing that causes people to pick shoes based upon the look rather the performance of the shoe.

So how do you find the right pair of shoes for you? You go to a place that specializes in running shoes. Not just a sports shoe place, an actual running shoe store. You are very likely to fiind a person who has been trained to assess your foot in the degree of pronation, or if you don’t pronate… then in the assessment notice the width of the toe area and then they will bring you the shoes in the correct category and you can see which feels good on your foot. If you are driven by looks, remember that very few people are noticing your shoes and if you are conscientious of your shoes you are going to run off the road and into a tree.

BOTTOM LINE – make friends with the running shoe store. Your feet will appreciate it.

JT’s Comments

Bob’s final comment – It takes discipline to … do what it takes to get the right shoe for you… and whether you are walking or running – your shoes, legs, back, and your entire body will appreciate your wearing the right shoe…

Point: DISCIPLINE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE --- in all aspects of life
