BB – We are talking today about “Who Is In Charge Here”
So JT What does that title bring up to your mind? ((JT ANSWERS))
- Bob – POINT: We need to be reminded because we are so apt to forget that Jesus is in complete control so we need not worry. Like the disciples were fearful of the storm but when Jesus calmed the storm simply by saying, Peace Be Still…..
Mark 4:41 (ESV) — 41 And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”
TODAY --- “Who Is In Charge Here”
- JT ------ OK THEN LET’S TALK SOME MORE ABOUT THAT as we bring up… WHAT’S NEW – as we open Bob’s recent blog from bobbrubaker.com …

JT – Question ONE - FROM THE SPIRITUAL SIDE OF LIFE….
What are some benefits of recognizing Jesus is in charge of things?
- Bob
For one, if He is in charge we don’t have to be in charge OR shouldn’t try to be in charge. That’s actually the basis of worry when we think we are in charge or try to be in charge and find out we aren’t in charge nor could we be in charge of things… which is why we are told instead of worrying about anything we are to pray about everything….
Philippians 4:6–7 (ESV) — 6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Notice the peace comes through prayer which is an admission we don’t have things under control but turn to the one who does.
Secondly, If Jesus is in control then we have a whole lot of gratitude to express…
1 Corinthians 4:7 (ESV) — 7 For who sees anything different in you? What do you have that you did not receive? If then you received it, why do you boast as if you did not receive it?
Gratitude for His being in control and for every speck of mercy that He bestows upon you in providing for you and caring for you. Remember He is the shepherd…
Psalm 23 (ESV) — A Psalm of David. 1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. 3 He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
DISCUSSION
- JT – Question Two… “FROM THE MENTAL ASPECT”
What is an appropriate mental strategy we need to apply ourselves to His control?
- Bob
If He is in control, then it is our job to constantly bring every thought and action to obedience to Him.
2 Corinthians 10:5–6 (ESV) — 5 We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, 6 being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete.
Romans 12:1–2 (ESV) — 1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
Discussion
- Third question … Turning to the Physical
Let’s talk about some mental health benefits of exercise. What have you found?
- Bob --- An article in health guide . org explained…
Exercise is not just about aerobic capacity and muscle size. Sure, exercise can improve your physical health and your physique, trim your waistline, improve your sex life, and even add years to your life. But that’s not what motivates most people to stay active.
People who exercise regularly tend to do so because it gives them an enormous sense of well-being. They feel more energetic throughout the day, sleep better at night, have sharper memories, and feel more relaxed and positive about themselves and their lives. And it’s also a powerful medicine for many common mental health challenges.
Regular exercise can have a profoundly positive impact on depression, anxiety, and ADHD. It also relieves stress, improves memory, helps you sleep better, and boosts your overall mood. And you don’t have to be a fitness fanatic to reap the benefits. Research indicates that modest amounts of exercise can make a real difference. No matter your age or fitness level, you can learn to use exercise as a powerful tool to deal with mental health problems, improve your energy and outlook, and get more out of life.
Even if you’re not suffering from a mental health problem, regular physical activity can still offer a welcome boost to your mood, outlook, and mental well-being.
Exercise can help provide: sharper memory and thinking, including helping to reverse some of the age declinging symptoms; a higher self esteem as you accomplish little goals and big goals in physical training, aids in better sleep and there are a plethora of benefits of improved sleep, more energy and improved resilience to disease.
Even a little bit of activity is better than nothing
JT comments
Bob’s final comment – It takes discipline to exercise regularly but as we pointed out the mental health and overall health benefits make every ounce of discipline worth it.
Point: DISCIPLINE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE --- in all aspects of life
