- JT – Question ONE - FROM THE SPIRITUAL SIDE OF LIFE….
You mentioned that Jesus practiced time management. How did you come up with that?
- Bob
Some basic deductions but consider a few points…
- Was Jesus ever in a hurry? No.
- Did Jesus know what He was to do everyday? Yes
- Did Jesus have a plan for accomplishing what He was to do? Yes
- Did Jesus come to the end of His life and have regrets for leaving things undone? No.
John 6:38–39 (ESV) — 38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me. 39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day.
John 11:1–16 (ESV) — 1 Now a certain man was ill, Lazarus of Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha. 2 It was Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was ill. 3 So the sisters sent to him, saying, “Lord, he whom you love is ill.” 4 But when Jesus heard it he said, “This illness does not lead to death. It is for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified through it.” 5 Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. 6 So, when he heard that Lazarus was ill, he stayed two days longer in the place where he was. 7 Then after this he said to the disciples, “Let us go to Judea again.” 8 The disciples said to him, “Rabbi, the Jews were just now seeking to stone you, and are you going there again?” 9 Jesus answered, “Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world. 10 But if anyone walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.” 11 After saying these things, he said to them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I go to awaken him.” 12 The disciples said to him, “Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will recover.” 13 Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that he meant taking rest in sleep. 14 Then Jesus told them plainly, “Lazarus has died, 15 and for your sake I am glad that I was not there, so that you may believe. But let us go to him.” 16 So Thomas, called the Twin, said to his fellow disciples, “Let us also go, that we may die with him.”
Luke 6:12 (ESV) — 12 In these days he went out to the mountain to pray, and all night he continued in prayer to God.
John 4:3–4 (ESV) — 3 he left Judea and departed again for Galilee. 4 And he had to pass through Samaria.
John 17:4 (ESV) — 4 I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do.
DISCUSSION
- JT – Question Two… “FROM THE MENTAL ASPECT”
What is an appropriate mental strategy to make the most of our time?
- Bob
First remember time is a gift and God requires you to be the steward of all He has given you, including your time.
Secondly, life is short. Procrastination is an assumption that you will have tomorrow what you could do today. Don’t assume anything. Treat everyday with equal importance. How would you hand things today if you knew you didn’t have tomorrow?
Thirdly, all areas of your life will benefit from being disciplined about your time. Just as wasting your time will spill over into an undisciplined lifestyle in all areas. And you can just follow that line to see where that will get you.
Find a time management system and look at it as FREEDOM because once you adapt to it you will find great freedom in doing more than you ever have and still having time to do the things you prioritize as important.
Discussion
- Third question … Turning to the Physical
It’s hot. What are some ideas to beat the heat when working out – outside and it’s hot?
- Bob --- Thanks to Steve Born from Hammer Nutrition for 10 keys to beating the heat.
- Train in the heat. If you train half the time inside in air conditioning you will find it harder to be in the heat.
- Stay hydrated all the time, even when NOT working out.
- Stay hydrated while working out in the heat…
- Focus on electrolytes and make sure you get a balance before, during, and after workouts.
- Avoid sugar based drinks while working out… leads to dehydration.
- Use an electrolyte drink prior to working out in the heat.
- Pace yourself in your workouts in the heat.
- Use caffeine cautiously. It can dehydrate you.
- Get wet often while working out. Extra water bottle to douse your head and neck.
- Know the symptoms of dehydration and overhydration… and stop. No race or training is worth wrecking your health.
What say you JT?
JT comments
Bob’s final comment – It takes discipline to apply common sense approach to recovery by backing off some – or approaching recovery as seriously as you do training BUT the evidence is there. You’ll make greater gains in the long run.
Point: DISCIPLINE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE --- in all aspects of life
