BB – We are talking today about “A Time To Sit Still”
So JT What does that title bring up to your mind? ((JT ANSWERS))
- Bob – POINT: We all like to feel we are in control, even though we know we really aren’t … nevertheless we end up busier than ever trying to be in control….
STOP THE MADNESS
Psalm 4:4 (KJV 1900) — 4 Stand in awe, and sin not: Commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.

- JT – Question ONE - FROM THE SPIRITUAL SIDE OF LIFE….
I like what you said about our imaginations getting the best of us… and because of that we need help in getting to the point where we can sit still. What is that about?
- Bob
Look at the verses I quoted in the article from. 2Corinthians 10:4-5
2 Corinthians 10:4–5 (ESV) — 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. 5 We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,
We are so quick to take on things in the flesh… in other words take on doing stuff to take control of situations. But wait… just sit still and apply the power of God to the situation, namely pray for and apply the power of God through the work of the Holy Spirit to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.
In this case obedience is “sit still” and trust the Lord.
Isaiah 40:28–31 (ESV) — 28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. 29 He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength. 30 Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; 31 but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
DISCUSSION
- JT – Question Two… “FROM THE MENTAL ASPECT”
What is an appropriate mental strategy to being OK to just “sit still?”
- Bob
It’s important to have examples in mind, say from the book of Ruth. Did Ruth sitting still and waiting upon God to work things out for Boaz --- work out well for Ruth?
When the children of Israel were facing the Red sea in front of them and the Egyptian army behind them and Moses said to just “stand sill” and see the salvation of God --- how did that work out for them.
Now it’s a matter of applying the same principle to waiting upon God to work things out instead of trying to step in and take control.
Discussion
- Third question … Turning to the Physical
It’s always a good reminder to be physically active but what are some definite benefits to exercise?
- Bob --- this is a list but not the final word there is much more…
- Produces new brain cells. Being physically active elevates the production of neurotransmitters that can stimulate the production of new brain cells.
- Improves brain function. Learning how to do new things – including new types of physical activities – can improve cognition and mental acuity.
- Helps with self-image. Being physically active can boost your self-esteem by offering a sense of accomplishment and success, which has a direct effect on your mental health.
- Provides a break from busy routines. Taking some time to do something for your own physical and mental well-being is essential. Many people with anxiety or depression use exercise as a positive coping mechanism.
- Encourages positive social interaction. Being physically active as part of a group is an opportunity to connect, make friends and feel like part of a positive and supportive community.
- Improves long-term brain health. In addition to improving mood and reducing feelings of anxiety, physical activity can reduce the risk of depression and of developing dementia.
- Positively impacts sleep quality. Being physically active can improve sleep quality, which is vital, as insufficient sleep has been linked to the development of many chronic diseases and conditions, as well elevated stress levels and weight gain.
JT comments
Bob’s final comment – It takes discipline to exercise but oh the benefits are great
Point: DISCIPLINE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE --- in all aspects of life
