BB –  We are talking today about  “The Benefits Of Joy”

So JT What does that title bring up to your mind? ((JT ANSWERS))

  1. Bob – POINT:  We could all use a bit of joy in our lives… but as we’ll talk about –  True Joy is not something that is produced, rather that God, the Holy Spirit works in us… as the fruit of the Spirit.

Galatians 5:22–23 (ESV) — 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

TODAY --- THE BENEFITS OF JOY

  1. JTQuestion ONE - FROM THE SPIRITUAL SIDE OF LIFE….

Am I reading you correctly that you don’t think a person without Christ can have joy in life?

  1. Bob

Enjoyment, YES, but true joy NO. Again this is fruit of the Spirit.

Galatians 5:22–23 (ESV) — 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

Romans 8:5–11 (ESV) — 5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. 6 For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. 7 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. 8 Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. 9 You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. 10 But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.

Romans 8:28–29 (ESV) — 28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. 29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.

Galatians 5:22–23 (ESV) — 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

DISCUSSION

  1. JT – Question Two… “FROM THE MENTAL ASPECT”

What is an appropriate mental strategy when it comes to rejoicing in the Lord?

  1. Bob

Take serious the word of God…

Philippians 4:4 (ESV) — 4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.

Habakkuk 3:17–19 (ESV) — 17 Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, 18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will take joy in the God of my salvation. 19 God, the Lord, is my strength; he makes my feet like the deer’s; he makes me tread on my high places. To the choirmaster: with stringed instruments.

Discussion

  1. Third question … Turning to the Physical

Let’s talk about body weight workouts… any advantages?

  1. Bob & JT discuss

According to Dean Karnansas writing for Hammer Nutrition…

  • Using just your body weight for fitness offers many additional advantages beyond saving money spent on a gym membership or buying a set of weights.
  • Let’s start with the obvious: accessibility. A bodyweight workout can be done anywhere and without the need for special equipment.
  • And bodyweight workouts are incredibly versatile. There are countless bodyweight exercises to target different muscle groups and fitness goals.
  • Additionally, bodyweight workouts can be easily integrated into busy schedules because there is so much flexibility as to where and when they can be done.
  • Dean says For instance that he once found himself in the Istanbul International Airport doing sets of chair dips and jumping lunges, and this was after an extended transcontinental flight filled with sets of seated knee-ups and crossover leg lifts! So, there really are no excuses when it comes to using just the weight of your body for exercise.
  • For me, the single most efficient and effective bodyweight workout is the burpee. He says his high school wrestling coach used to make them do a set of burpees when they arrived at the gym, and a set of burpees when they left.
  • Any other thoughts JT?

Bob’s final comment – It takes discipline train with Body weight exercises… looking up a good routine … but there are with you when you can’t do other things.. A great resource for a pinch….

Point: DISCIPLINE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE --- in all aspects of life
