  1. Bob – POINT:  Praying for others or “interceding” is NOT AN OPTION…

1 Timothy 2:1–3 (ESV) — 1 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, 2 for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. 3 This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior,

  1. JTQuestion ONE - FROM THE SPIRITUAL SIDE OF LIFE….

Praying for others is an important thing --- like you said earlier – IT’S NOT AN OPTION…. so how do we go about it? I don’t think I’ve heard too many instructions on developing a personal ministry of intercession.

  1. Bob & JT discuss

If God has commanded it then it’s important. Besides He has given us multiple instructions and examples.  So to be willing to do what He says is commendable. Let’s break down some basics.

  • It takes a commitment – like in anything in serving God – it takes a commitment to be inconvenienced in order to please Him. But remember nothing we do in giving our time and effort to ‘God ever goes unnoticed or unrewarded.
  • It takes a plan to carry it out. You can’t just dream it or think it so… make a plan.
  1. Ask God for help as you make the plan to carry this out.
  2. A place is important --- a place in the house
  3. Materials you will use – Bible, notebook, folder of requests
  4. A given time – means you will not just let it happen you will plan it.
  5. The time has come – ask for help in bringing your mind in line. (2Cor 10:4)
  6. Read in the word seeking to know God
  7. Use the Lord’s prayer for guidance --- Jesus gave this twice to the disciples…

Matthew 6:9–13 (KJV 1900) — 9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

  • Praise for God – conside the blessing of coming into His presence
  • Submission to Him
  • Seeking for His provision – expression of dependency
  • Seeking His forgiveness
  • Seeking His leading
  • PRAYING FOR OTHERS
    • Your family
    • Your pastor and church leaders
    • Your friends
    • Your circle of influence
  • Conclude with expressions of trust.

DISCUSSION

  1. JT – Question Two… “FROM THE MENTAL ASPECT”

How do we mentally grasp the importance of praying for others? In other words, how can we grasp how God uses our prayers?

  1. Discussion

God says if He needed anything, which He never does – He wouldn’t tell us…

Psalm 50:12 (KJV 1900) — 12 If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: For the world is mine, and the fulness thereof.

So God doesn’t need our help BUT ---- He leads us to intercede, He helps us in interceding others, He rewards us for interceding --- in many ways ---- AND He allows us to see what He is doing and not in a prideful or boasting way… to be able to know we had a part in God bringing that around. All that is meant to keep us interceding for others.

Think about it… God calls us to pray, He leads us to pray, He helps us pray, He rewards us for praying, and He let’s us see – not always but often enough to let us know our prayers are not in vain but are part of Him accomplishing His will in the world.

Doesn’t get any better than that! Because as. you. pray you experience close fellowship with God.  ((( also. weekly prayer meeting at your church --- everyone helps to bear the burden)))

  1. Third question … Turning to the Physical

How much time should we spend exercising?

  1. Bob & JT discuss

Peter Attia says we should not concern ourselves with the time spent exercising, rather we should be concerned about the reason we exercise --- or our goals if you please.

The duration is insignificant because we should be concerned with are results…

Are we increasing our cardiovascular health?

Are we increasing in fitness?

Are we gaining strength?

Is our metabolic health increasing?

If your goal is something like those then you may want to increase, you may want to back off, or you may be satisfied…

It depends on what the reason is you are exercising in the first place.

JT – you and I exercise because we like it and like what it does and how it makes us feel.

Any other thoughts JT?

Bob’s final comment – It takes discipline to why you are exercising, and how you are moving toward those goals … and tweeking how much you are devoting to exercise.

Point: DISCIPLINE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE --- in all aspects of life

Closing statement Bob…. “check out today’s show notes at bobbrubaker.com and click on the PowerBreak podcast – today’s show is 300.
