- JT – Question ONE - FROM THE SPIRITUAL SIDE OF LIFE….
This seems like a no brainer to focus on the faithfulness of God but we all know that it’s easy to sing about it on Sunday but forget about it on Monday. Why is that? And what can we do?
- Bob & JT discuss
First – the Christian life is a battle ---- the Bible describes the battle as with the world, the flesh, and the devil.
Ephesians 6:10–12 (ESV) — 10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
Everything from the attractions of the world ----
1 John 2:15–16 (ESV) — 15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world.
The pull of the flesh = our old nature that wants to be fulfilled instead of disciplined
Galatians 5:16–17 (ESV) — 16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.
Romans 7:19 (ESV) — 19 For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing.
Romans 7:23–25 (ESV) — 23 but I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. 24 Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? 25 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.
1 Corinthians 10:13 (ESV) — 13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
1 Thessalonians 5:14–24 (ESV) — 14 And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all. 15 See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone. 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not despise prophecies, 21 but test everything; hold fast what is good. 22 Abstain from every form of evil. 23 Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.
DISCIPLINES OF THE CHRISTIAN LIFE HELP TO BRING OUT MINDS INTO FOCUS ON GOD…. AND HIS FAITHFULNESS
- JT – Question Two… “FROM THE MENTAL ASPECT”
How can we mentally bring the truth of God’s faithfulness into play --- on a daily basis?
- Bob & JT discuss
Read about it – talk about it – pray about it --- rely upon it.
Deuteronomy 6:4–12 (ESV) — 4 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. 8You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. 10 “And when the Lord your God brings you into the land that he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give you—with great and good cities that you did not build, 11 and houses full of all good things that you did not fill, and cisterns that you did not dig, and vineyards and olive trees that you did not plant—and when you eat and are full, 12 then take care lest you forget the Lord, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
Psalm 78:1–4 (ESV) — 1 Give ear, O my people, to my teaching; incline your ears to the words of my mouth! 2 I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings from of old, 3 things that we have heard and known, that our fathers have told us. 4 We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders that he has done.

- Third question … Turning to the Physical
When you are crunched for time, can you combine an endurance workout with weight training OR do we need to keep the two workouts on separate days?
- Bob & JT discuss
Best case scenario is on separate days but we all face the challenges of being crunched for time so here are some thoughts.
First – your second workout will suffer because if you devote yourself to an endurance workout – then you’ll be tired for an effective weight workout. And visa versa
So you have to decide the emphasis --- because of you go all out on both …. You’re kidding yourself.
Pick one and use that as a warm up for the other. The next time switch the order
Granted both workouts will suffer from our tendency to hold back or not having enough in the tank to go as hard as we’d like on the second activity.
It’s like the days of training for Ironman --- SWIM/BIKE or BIKE/RUN --- decide ahead of time which is the emphasis..
Keep in mind that both workouts are important … and if in this season you are crunched for time …. Do what you can to get both in, including back to back but plan it out so you are not just going through the motions in either or both activities…
Anything final thoughts on this JT?
Bob’s final comment – It takes discipline to have a plan to make sure you are giving your best for endurance and weight training so don’t assume you can just handle back to back without some stategy… take the time to make a plan and work the plan
Point: DISCIPLINE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE --- in all aspects of life
