So JT What does that title bring up to your mind? ((JT ANSWERS))

  1. Bob – POINT: This is not from the book that I wrote and offered previously this month… This is new stuff … because there is more research published all the time about the plethora of benefits found in being grateful.

 

Colossians 3:15 (ESV) — 15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.

  1. JTQuestion ONE - FROM THE SPIRITUAL SIDE OF LIFE….

 

Let’s talk about the benefits from being grateful and why it’s so hard to be grateful.

Scientific studies have found that gratitude is associated with:

  • Greater happiness
  • Moreoptimismand positive emotions
  • New and lasting relationships
  • Better health
  • More progress toward personalgoals
  • Fewer aches and pains
  • More alertness and determination
  • Increasedgenerosityand empathy
  • Better sleep
  • Improvedself-esteem

With no downside to practicing more gratitude…. So why is it so hard?

  1. We don’t like to acknowledge what we have…. And especially that we have received it rather than earn it. ((((ego)))
  2. Since gratitude reminds us that we lacked what has been provided, we would rather not admit any such thing.
  3. Bottom line we have an inward rebellion against God --- that even if we have submitted to God, we like to play the card that says I can make it without you..

SAD because we rob ourselves of the benefits

How can we mentally push ourselves to do what we need to do to be grateful?

Challenge anything within that is ungrateful. Why am I not grateful?

Motion produces emotion, so follow God’s command to be grateful and allow the action to produce the feeling instead of waiting on the feeling to produce the action.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 (ESV) — 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

  1. Third question … Turning to the Physical

 

How can gratitude improve our fitness?

Think about it…

  • Gratitude Increases Self-Esteem and Confidence
  • Gratitude Improves Feelings Of Happiness
  • Gratitude Helps With Goal-Attainment
  • Gratitude Improves Stress-Management
  • Gratitude Promotes Physical Health and Improves Performance

 

Gratitude is the most powerful emotion… and it will help you go beyond your barriers.

Bob’s final comment – It takes discipline to be grateful even when you are exercising but it will pay off in many ways.
