BB – We are talking today about “The Power Of No”
So JT What does that title bring up to your mind? ((JT ANSWERS))
- Bob – POINT: If we aren’t careful in making decisions, we’ll fall into the trap that holds many people today in a stressed out condition of being over committed and most commitments are things to which we really didn’t want to commit.
Psalm 1 (ESV) — 1 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; 2 but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. 3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. 4 The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. 5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; 6 for the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.

- JT – Question ONE - FROM THE SPIRITUAL SIDE OF LIFE….
Why is it so hard to say, “NO” when we know we should? And how do we get back to finding the power in “NO?”
- Bob & JT discuss
First let’s tackle the reason why we find it so hard…
Which falls into the two reasons…
- We fall into the trap of people pleasers … so that we find it easy to commit than to defend a reason for not committing. I reckon that would fall into fearing rejection or criticism so instead of standing our ground we make a commitment we later regret because of the added stress of another thing and something that does not meet our main purpose of life.
- Which brings to number 2 and that is that we have never taken the time to decide what is important in life so that we then have a guideline to follow.
As I mentioned in the blog, a person who has made a commitment as a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ has a guideline which is the word of God…
Then to take it further – as I mentioned Jonathan Edwards and his 70 resolutions were his fine tuning the advice in the word of God for specifics in his life, which became governors upon his decision process.
Ephesians 5:14–20 (ESV) — 14 Therefore it says, “Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” 15 Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, 19 addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, 20 giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
When you seek God for wisdom, apply the wisdom from His word, depending upon the leading and help of the Holy Spirit, you will make wise choices including knowing when and when not to say, no.
Proverbs 3:5–6 (ESV) — 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
- JT – Question Two… “FROM THE MENTAL ASPECT”
How can we mentally wrap our minds around saying “no” instead of “yes” to everything?
- Bob & JT discuss
Did Jesus say yes to everything?
John 6:38–39 (ESV) — 38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me. 39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day.
John 4:34 (ESV) — 34 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work.
- Third question … Turning to the Physical
Let’s talk about feet… particularly the need to think about exercises that a promote good balance and stability.
- Bob & JT discuss
Feet are often underappreciated. We don’t think much about them until they hurt or give us problems. But they are of course crucial to getting us around and keeping us balanced. “Your feet carry your body through life. They are often neglected because they are mostly packed away in socks and shoes,”
A weak foot reduces your stability and balance, which increases your chances of falling. Unintentional falls are the leading cause of injury and injury deaths among adults age 65 and older, and more than 95 percent of hip fractures are caused by falling, according to the Centers for Disease Control.
“Foot mobility is especially important to help preserve a full range of motion in the feet,” “Since the feet are anchors for our entire body … having adequate foot mobility is key to maintaining full-body health.”
But here’s the good news – with the right exercises, you can improve your foot mobility, balance and coordination, which reduces your risk of falling.
- Ankle circles
- Toe pulls
- Calf raises
- Single leg balance
- Ball roll
Anything final thoughts on this JT?
Bob’s final comment – It takes discipline to take care of your feet and not neglect them in your full body workouts BUT it will pay of with greater balance and stability.
Point: DISCIPLINE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE --- in all aspects of life
