  1. Bob – POINT: We all need to take a lesson from professional athletes who have learned to develop a short memory when it comes to mistakes to learn to put things to the side and move forward instead of letting the past hold us back.

 

Philippians 3:13–14 (ESV) — 13 Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Why is developing a short memory important for a Christian?

It’s the way in which we can deal biblically with our own sin and failure as well as with the offenses that come from others.

First think about our own sin and failure… What do we do?

Psalm 32:1–5 (ESV) — 1 Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. 2 Blessed is the man against whom the Lord counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit. 3 For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. 4 For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was dried up as by the heat of summer. Selah 5 I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah

1 John 1:8–10 (ESV) — 8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

Romans 8:31–34 (ESV) — 31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? 33 Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.

If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. 16 But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every charge may be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses. 17 If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector. 18 Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. 19 Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”

How can we mentally wrap our minds around this need to develop a short memory?

Watch a baseball game.

Batter strikes out – on his way back to the dugout he is putting that which just happened out of his memory. ((( exceptions of  those who get mad))) only way to come back is forget …. ((( there will be learning from videos but for now  - gone and go on))

  1. Third question … Turning to the Physical

 

Daylight savings Time has come an end this past weekend… so what are some ways to adapt… especially in our training?

 

  1. Bob & JT discuss

To minimize the impact of the change in time, you can employ many of the same tips and tricks that travelers use when crossing time zones in order to manage jet lag:

  1. Go to sleep and wake up based on your internal clock, not the mechanical one. It may be tempting to take advantage of one more hour of being awake, but this can lead to problems.
  2. Practice good sleep hygiene on the night of the time change (better yet, always!). Suggestions include avoiding caffeine in the evening, keeping distractions like phones or televisions to a bare minimum, and avoiding working out late in the day or evening.
  3. Expose yourself to the bright morning sunlight on the morning after the time change. This can help reset your internal clock.
  4. Try to avoid napping. However, if you become very sleep-deprived over the course of two or three days after the change, napping is a good way to catch up on the deficit.

Outdoor exercise is now most often in the dark –

  1. Make sure you use lights and can be seen
  2. Best to workout with others who also use lights
  3. Make sure you get some time “in the sun” during the day
  4. Make a plan to Supplement or substitute with indoor workouts

   Anything final thoughts on this JT?

Bob’s final comment – It takes discipline to adapt to the inevitable time change… but it will pay off in not losing valuable fitness if you make a plan to adapt

 

Point: DISCIPLINE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE --- in all aspects of life
