- JT – Question ONE - FROM THE SPIRITUAL SIDE OF LIFE….
Doesn’t this “poor in spirit” attitude run contrary to life?
- Bob & JT discuss
Doesn’t everything about following the Lord Jesus Christ run contrary to natural thinking?
Luke 9:23 (ESV) — 23 And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.
Luke 18:9–14 (ESV) — 9 He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and treated others with contempt: 10 “Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee, standing by himself, prayed thus: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I get.’ 13 But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’ 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified, rather than the other. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”
1 Corinthians 2:14 (ESV) — 14 The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are folly to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.
Ephesians 2:1–3 (ESV) — 1 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.
Ephesians 2:4–9 (ESV) — 4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
- JT – Question Two… “FROM THE MENTAL ASPECT”
How do we mentally wrap our minds around the “poor in spirit” concept?
- Bob & JT discuss
Gratitude
Anything I have is “better than I deserve.”
(((Dale Carter illustration)))
Satisfaction with whatever the hand of God provides…
CONTENTMENT
- Third question … Turning to the Physical
Let’s talk about mistakes that people make when they go to the gym as in a weight room or workout center.
- Bob & JT discuss
- Going to the gym without a plan. It ends up being a little of this and a little of that
- Skipping the warm up. This means you can get hurt because your muscles are cold.
- Changing your exercises too frequently ---- goes back to not having a plan.
- Ignoring what you do when you are not in the gym. ((eating bon bons)))
- Thinking everyone is watching you.
Anything final thoughts on this JT?
Bob’s final comment – It takes discipline to make your time in the gym count by preparing and sticking to a plan or hiring a coach.
Point: DISCIPLINE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE --- in all aspects of life
