- JT – This is the PowerBreak Podcast, I’m JT along with Bob Brubaker and this is the –– time for some questions and answers. Feel free to submit your questions by EMAIL TO JT@bobbrubaker.com and we’ll get to the answer on an upcoming PowerBreak. Podcast…
- JT – Question ONE - FROM THE SPIRITUAL SIDE OF LIFE….
Was Paul just avoiding the question or was he offering advice because his answer was not a matter of back and white like some people really want?
- Bob & JT discuss
As I mentioned in the article, many people what it to be a matter of black and white so they don’t have to think. The problem is that they judge people by the standard they they have come up with and give no place for liberty.
Others stress freedom as Paul stated in Romans 14… but leave no slack for a person who has not come to that conclusion.
Romans 14:14 (ESV) — 14 I know and am persuaded in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself, but it is unclean for anyone who thinks it unclean.
So Paul gave us these two adages… focusing on the test of expedience…
1 Corinthians 6:12 (KJV) — 12 All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.
1 Corinthians 10:23 (KJV) — 23 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.
As I pointed out in the article., this takes a great deal of wisdom in applying freedom but avoiding being a stumbling block, or worse, falling into a trap that will hold you in bondage to this supposed freedom.
So Paul is not avoiding the question of what is right and what is wrong but laying down some guidelines by which we can make good choices with the thought of others in mind along with our own spiritual walk with God.
- JT – Question Two… “FROM THE MENTAL ASPECT”
How should we mentally approach questions of Christian liberty?
- Bob & JT discuss
Philippians 2:3–4 (ESV) — 3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. 4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
Selfish ambition and conceit are demonstrated in a lack of concern for others. And that has no place in serving God.
(((ILL - the question of wine in Winter Park)))
1 Corinthians 6:12 (KJV) — 12 All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.
1 Corinthians 10:23 (KJV) — 23 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.
- (JT) Third Question …. From the physical side of life…
Let’s talk training when caught in the mid summer blahs…. What doe a person when they find themselves in mid summer slump?
- Bob and JT discuss…
- Take a look at past achievements and take note of the joy those achievements brought --- training, competing, etc.
- Reevaluate your lifestyle stress. More than likely stresses outside of training are taking an impact on your training so that you feel guilty for training or you are so caught up with “stuff” you are not focusing on your training so it becomes another source of added stress.
- Step back from training if necessary to deal with the stress of life. It may mean going back to the basics of time management, or other stress relievers to get a handle on things --- Or it could be a season of life or the year that shall also soon pass .
- Listen to your body. Sometimes your body is crying out because you haven’t treated it well in recovery, fuel, or sleep. Take an assessment in all areas.
- Focus on recovery and recovery habits before you move on in training.
- Mix things up in training. Try a new routine, something completely different. Add some excitement of something new. Learn a new skill.
- Re-assess your goals.
Anything final thoughts on this JT?
Bob’s final comment – It takes discipline to step back so you can go forward as you face a mid summer slump BUT it can be done if you will be disciplined to apply the things we brought up….
Point: DISCIPLINE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE --- in all aspects of life
