BB – We are talking today about … “Lite Affiction”
So JT What does that title bring up to your mind?
- Bob – POINT: We are taking the tite from Paul’s great statement in 2Cor 4
2 Corinthians 4:16–18 (ESV) — 16 So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. 17 For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, 18 as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.
- JT ------ OK THEN LET’S TALK SOME MORE ABOUT THAT as we bring up… WHAT’S NEW – as we open Bob’s recent blog from bobbrubaker.com …

- JT – Question ONE - FROM THE SPIRITUAL SIDE OF LIFE….
Was Paul an unusually gifted person to be able to call affliction lite? And does God expect us to follow his example?
- Bob & JT discuss
Romans 15:4 (KJV 1900) — 4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
1 Peter 1:3–8 (ESV) — 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, 5 who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. 6 In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 8 Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory,
Romans 8:28–29 (KJV 1900) — 28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. 29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
John 15:4–5 (KJV 1900) — 4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. 5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
Galatians 5:22–23 (KJV 1900) — 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Matthew 13:23 (KJV 1900) — 23 But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.
Titus 2:11–14 (KJV 1900) — 11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; 13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; 14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
- JT – Question Two… “FROM THE MENTAL ASPECT”
How should we mentally approach affliction if we are to consider it "lite?”
- Bob & JT discuss
Romans 8:18 (ESV) — 18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.
When is the last time you thought about heaven? … or the resurrection? … or the new heavens and the new earth wherein dwells righteousness?
This world is not our home we are merely passing through
- (JT) Third Question …. From the physical side of life…
Let’s talk about the benefits of exercise. I know there are quite a few but let’s talk about that study that found 7 in particular.
- Bob and JT discuss…
- Great for your brain
- Makes you feel happier
- Makes you age slower
- Makes your skin look better
- You don’t have to exercise long to benefit
- Helps you recover from major illness
- Causes your fat cells to shrink
Anything final thoughts on this JT?
Bob’s final comment – It takes discipline to exercise at any level…
Point: DISCIPLINE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE --- in all aspects of life
