BB –  We are talking today about … “The Power of Just One More”…

So JT What does that title bring up to your mind?

  1. Bob – POINT: We can all add just one more rep, write one more paragraph, read one more page, etc. When we think of “just one more” there are many examples in the Bible…

Luke 13:6–9 (ESV) — 6 And he told this parable: “A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard, and he came seeking fruit on it and found none. 7 And he said to the vinedresser, ‘Look, for three years now I have come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and I find none. Cut it down. Why should it use up the ground?’ 8 And he answered him, ‘Sir, let it alone this year also, until I dig around it and put on manure. 9 Then if it should bear fruit next year, well and good; but if not, you can cut it down.’ ”

  1. JT ------ OK THEN LET’S TALK SOME MORE ABOUT THAT as we bring up… WHAT’S NEW –  as we open Bob’s recent blog from bobbrubaker.com …

  1. JT This is the PowerBreak Podcast, I’m JT along with Bob Brubaker and this is the  –– time for some questions and answers. Feel free to submit your questions by EMAIL TO JT@bobbrubaker.com and we’ll get to the answer on an upcoming PowerBreak. Podcast…

  1. JTQuestion ONE - FROM THE SPIRITUAL SIDE OF LIFE…. From a listener, or actually a person who subscribes to the weekly PowerBreak article about the recent blog, titled “Morning Prayer” …. So she writes…

I do have a couple of questions about this most current posting: Morning Prayer. Yes, there are folks in the Bible who rose early and had quiet time with God but my question is: why does it need to be early morning? So many believers advocate for this but I suspect they are mostly naturally early risers. I swam at an elite level through high school and into college and was up and in the water by 5 AM so I'm no stranger to rising early. I will say, though, that I have virtually no functionality at that time of day. I can barely turn on the kitchen lights or pour myself a cup of juice before 7 AM. This is not laziness or a desire to sleep in. It's my body clock. Why can't a believer have quiet time with God at 9 AM or noon? Why not a peaceful evening visit with our Heavenly Father? (It's always 5:00 AM somewhere!) Doesn't He delight in our prayers and time with Him at any time?

  1. Bob & JT discuss

Great question and comment…. I wish to say that I did not mean to put down anyone who does NOT get up early to pray .. As we discussed on the podcast we did on that title - YES - anytime is the right time for prayer and as we pointed out people who work shift work cannot make the early morning hours as they are often working….

Luke 9:23 (ESV) — 23 And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.

1 Corinthians 9:24–27 (ESV) — 24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. 25 Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. 26 So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. 27 But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.

Thank you for the question and comments… it does help us to keep in touch with our listeners… and to get the feedback.

  1. JT – Question Two… “FROM THE MENTAL ASPECT”

How do we apply this power of just one more from a mental aspect?

  1. Bob & JT discuss

Rebecca principle = “What is expected and then some.”

  1. (JT) Third Question …. From the physical side of life…

What’s this about exercise helping your brain function? I think we all know that.

  1. Bob and JT discuss…

Past studies have shown a correlation between exercise and short-term bursts in creativity,

Researchers also noted that walking boosted creativity whether it occurred indoors or outdoors. This bodes well for people who like to take walking meetings or do the occasional lap around the office. “Incorporating physical activity into our lives is not only beneficial for our hearts but our brains as well,” says the researcher. “This research suggests an easy and productive way to weave it into certain work activities.”

Building on this prior research, a new study from the Austria tried to determine the link between regular physical activity and one’s creative performance, rather than short-term effects felt immediately following exercise. Scientists gave 79 participants activity trackers and monitored their movements over five days. This method helped to measure all activity, including walking, vigorous exercise and spontaneous movements that occurred over the week, not just the forced activity that occurs in a lab setting.

After those five days, the researchers measured each participant’s creativity with tests ranging from verbal associations to drawing exercises. The most active people proved to be the most creative, showing a correlation between overall physical activity and creative cognition.

The next time you’re stuck on an idea or need some inspiration, try going for a walk, hopping on your bike (even a stationary one) or lifting weights. The benefits are two-fold: Your heart, muscles and bones enjoy the exercise, and your brain appreciates the heightened creativity. If you can’t get away from the office, but you need to solve a problem, take a stroll around the building. If your boss gives you a hard time, just remind them your science-backed strategy isn’t just good for you — it’s also good for the company.

What say you JT?

Bob’s final comment – It takes discipline ….

Point: DISCIPLINE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE --- in all aspects of life
