Bob – POINT: Ruth was gleaning in the field of Boaz and He instructed the harvesters to leave of the take for Ruth as she followed them gleaning whatever she could find from what was left behind. What a blessing to find handfuls of grain… SO too God provides for us whereas Paul reminds us as he asks the question….

Let’s talk about some “handfuls of purpose” that God provides for us…

1 Corinthians 4:7 (ESV) — 7 For who sees anything different in you? What do you have that you did not receive? If then you received it, why do you boast as if you did not receive it?

1 Timothy 6:17 (ESV) — 17 As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.

Philippians 4:19 (ESV) — 19 And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

How can we mentally glean the handfuls of purpose that God provides?

1 Peter 5:6–7 (ESV) — 6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, 7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

Lamentations 3:19–23 (ESV) — 19 Remember my affliction and my wanderings, the wormwood and the gall! 20 My soul continually remembers it and is bowed down within me. 21 But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: 22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; 23 they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

James 1:16–17 (ESV) — 16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers. 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change

  1. (JT) Third Question …. From the physical side of life…

How can a person be patient and persevere when trying to lose weight?

  1. Bob and JT discuss…
  2. GOALS – BIG GOAL – break it down to yearly, monthly, weekly goals (realistic)
  3. Think small – as instead of the big weight goal – think about the goals for today – what you eat and how you workout, the importance of sleep, etc.
  4. Develop a “lower weight” (“HEALTHY”) lifestyle – hang out with like minded
  5. Reward yourself for milestones along the way – (((with something other than food))
  6. Make eating healthy and exercise fun
  7. Reframe frustrations and setbacks --- instead of beating yourself up or coming up with excuses … just remind yourself it’s a long journey and it’s a bump along the way
  8. LIFESTYLE change – more than goal weight
