BB – We are talking today about … “Responding To Loss” … So JT – Have you ever been a victim in suffering loss?”
JT answers and discussion
- Bob – POINT: The point is simple – We all suffer loss all the time, sometimes things are taken from us, sometimes we lose things because of something we’ve done – but a loss is a loss and the key is responding to loss as the Bible instructs us through precept and example.
Job 1:20–21 (ESV) — 20 Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head and fell on the ground and worshiped. 21 And he said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”
So today it’s the consideration of Responding To Loss…
JT ------ OK THEN LET’S TALK SOME MORE ABOUT THAT as we bring up… WHAT’S NEW – as we open Bob’s recent blog from bobbrubaker.com …

- JT – Question ONE - FROM THE SPIRITUAL SIDE OF LIFE….
Boil it down for us – how are we to respond to loss from a spiritual perspective?
- Bob
Job 1:20–21 (ESV) — 20 Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head and fell on the ground and worshiped. 21 And he said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”
Genesis 50:20 (ESV) — 20 As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today.
1 Peter 1:6 (ESV) — 6 In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials,
Romans 8:28–31 (ESV) — 28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. 29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified. 31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
- JT – Question Two… “FROM THE MENTAL ASPECT”
What was Job’s focus and what can we learn so we follow his lead in responding to loss?
- Bob
Job was focused on pleasing God.
Job 1:6–8 (ESV) — 6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them. 7 The Lord said to Satan, “From where have you come?” Satan answered the Lord and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking up and down on it.” 8 And the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, who fears God and turns away from evil?”
Job 1:20–22 (ESV) — 20 Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head and fell on the ground and worshiped. 21 And he said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.” 22 In all this Job did not sin or charge God with wrong.
