BB – We are talking today about … “The Value Of Early Rising” … So JT – What value have you found in rising up early?”
JT answers and discussion
- Bob – POINT: The point is simple – The Bible teaches us that we are to make the most use of our time and the Lord Jesus Christ along with others in the Bible demonstrated the need to arise early. We would do well then to consider the Bible teaching by precept and example to exercise the discipline of arising early…
Mark 1:35 (ESV) — 35 And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed. .
So today it’s the consideration of the The Value of Early Rising…
JT ------ OK THEN LET’S TALK SOME MORE ABOUT THAT as we bring up… WHAT’S NEW – as we open Bob’s recent blog from bobbrubaker.com …

- JT – Question ONE - FROM THE SPIRITUAL SIDE OF LIFE….
First let’s clear something up here – you are NOT saying that in order to be a Christian you need to get up early are you?
Boil that down for us then… why should we discipline ourselves to get up early?
- Bob
Luke 9:23 (ESV) — 23 And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.
Ephesians 5:15–17 (ESV) — 15 Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.
1 Peter 4:10 (ESV) — 10 As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace:
1 Corinthians 4:2 (ESV) — 2 Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful.
- JT – Question Two… “FROM THE MENTAL ASPECT”
How do we get over the mental hurdle of robbing ourselves of sleep in getting up early?
- Bob
First, you need to consider the benefits before you look at the cost.
Consider the benefits of spending some uninterrupted time with God and His word.
Consider the fact that once you get in the mode of getting up early you can accomplish so much more in that people of time and you are so much more alert when others are just struggling to get going.
Granted there is a cost in the way of sleep which means you need to exercise discipline at that other end of the clock which means you learn to say NO to things…
That means you must keep the benefits in front of you.
JT adds his take…
- (JT) Third Question …. Turning to the physical aspect of life….
Since the hot topic at this time of the year is weight loss – what say you?
Bob: I found some very good simple applications on Chris Carmichael’s CTS website.
- Whenever you go to a restaurant, immediately get a box and place part of your meal in it.
- Do not get refills on chips and bread when you go out.
- Reduce or eliminate alcohol
- Wait before asking for seconds. Your internal “full signals” may take a moment to get past the influences in your brain that cause cravings…
- Preplan your travel eating so you don’t make decisions out of hunger or low blood sugar moments
- Buy sweets or other indulgences in single serving packages.
- Indulge only when it’s worth it vs. every meal being an occasion for indulging.
Any other thoughts JT
BB & JT discuss ---
Bob’s final comment – It takes discipline ….
