JT answers and discussion
- Bob – POINT: We all have those times, mostly when we are in a time of affliction or bearing the consequence of doing things on our own as we have drifted from our walk with God … and He allows things in our lives to get our attention to which we are often heard to complain that He is just angry.
Psalm 79:5 (ESV) — 5 How long, O Lord? Will you be angry forever? Will your jealousy burn like fire?
Psalm 30:5 (ESV) — 5 For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.
So today it’s the consideration of the When You Feel like God Is Mad At You

- JT – Question ONE - FROM THE SPIRITUAL SIDE OF LIFE….
Does God get angry with Christians? And if He does, what do we do when we sense He is angry with us?
- Bob
The answer is yes. God does get angry with His people – we see that in the OT as He dealt with Israel.
Joshua 7:1 (ESV) — 1 But the people of Israel broke faith in regard to the devoted things, for Achan the son of Carmi, son of Zabdi, son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took some of the devoted things. And the anger of the Lord burned against the people of Israel.
Galatians 6:7–8 (ESV) — 7 Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. 8 For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.
It’s not the same as He is angry with the wicked, of course.
Psalm 7:11 (ESV) — 11 God is a righteous judge, and a God who feels indignation every day.
Psalm 7:11 (KJV) — 11 God judgeth the righteous, And God is angry with the wicked every day.
But we must be admonished to respond to the time when we sense His anger in a way that is in keeping with the word of God. Namely:
- Examine our ways and confess and repent of the things we see are not in keeping with His word either in action or attitude.
- Accept His chastisement which is often the consequence of our sin, albeit tempered by His love for us, knowing that we deserve far worse.
- As in all afflictions in life, focus on the fact that if it wasn’t necessary for our good – it wouldn’t be.
- Focus on glorifying Him, which is our responsibility in every situation in life.
Psalm 30:5 (ESV) — 5 For his anger is but for a moment, and his favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may tarry for the night, but joy comes with the morning.
- JT – Question Two… “FROM THE MENTAL ASPECT”
Since anger produces anger – how do we keep from getting angry in return when we sense God’s anger with us?
- Bob
- Keep in mind that His anger is righteous anger – not like our anger that is out of frustration. His anger is in keeping with His character and is in response to our inconsistencies as we say one thing and act in the opposite way. Remember the way the Lord Jesus Christ dealt with the Pharisees.
- Focus on God’s care for us to bring about our conformity to Christ.
Romans 8:28–29 (ESV) — 28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. 29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.
Hebrews 12:7–10 (ESV) — 7 It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? 8 If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. 9 Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? 10 For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness.
- (JT) Third Question …. Turning to the physical aspect of life….
Let’s talk recovery: It’s the season when we could or maybe should take a serious look at how well we are recovering.
Bob: OK some ideas…
- Actually, this is the season when many people apply a week or two to a focused recovery before beginning another season of build up.
- A few ideas to take a serious assessment in your recovery.
- HOW’S YOUR SLEEP BEEN? AND HOW CONSISTENT?
- How is your protein intake throughout the day, not just post workout?
- How well are you fueling during the workout so you are not as far depleted as you begin recovery? (is your focus on weight loss?)
- Do you take advantage or do you starve your body’s cry for glycogen in the first 60 minutes after a workout?
- Do you skip cool a cool down to save time? (Known to help in recovery)
Any other thoughts JT
this is the season when many people apply a week or two to a focused recovery before beginning another season of build up
BB & JT discuss ---
Bob’s final comment – It takes discipline ….
Point: DISCIPLINE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE --- in all aspects of life
