BB&JT: Plea and thank you for ratings and review & for spreading the word via social media and word of mouth…

BB –  We are talking today about … Laboring to Rest – how do you find yourself laboring in order to find rest?

JT answers

  1. Bob – POINT: The point is this… in order to find rest we have to do whatever is necessary to find or take advantage of that rest… and often it means laboring to make it happen but OH how sweet is that rest for which we labor.

Hebrews 4:11 (ESV) — 11 Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience.

  1. JT ------ OK THEN LET’S TALK SOME MORE ABOUT THAT as we bring up… WHAT’S NEW –  as we open Bob’s recent blog from bobbrubaker.com …

  1. JTQuestion ONE - FROM THE SPIRITUAL SIDE OF LIFE….

How does the rest that you talk about in your blog differ from just being lazy?

  1. Bob

Ecclesiastes 5:12 (ESV) — 12 Sweet is the sleep of a laborer, whether he eats little or much, but the full stomach of the rich will not let him sleep.

Proverbs 6:6–9 (ESV) — 6 Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise. 7 Without having any chief, officer, or ruler, 8 she prepares her bread in summer and gathers her food in harvest. 9 How long will you lie there, O sluggard? When will you arise from your sleep?

Proverbs 13:4 (ESV) — 4 The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.

Proverbs 26:16 (ESV) — 16 The sluggard is wiser in his own eyes than seven men who can answer sensibly.

Hebrews 4:11 (ESV) — 11 Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience.

Matthew 11:28–30 (ESV) — 28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Isaiah 55:1–2 (ESV) — 1 “Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. 2 Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food.

  1. JT – Question Two… “FROM THE MENTAL ASPECT”

Let’s make the difference then between laboring and resting. How can we decipher the difference?

  1. Bob

Hebrews 4:9–11 (ESV) — 9 So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, 10 for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his. 11 Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience.

  1. (JT) Third Question …. Turning to the physical aspect of life….

Let’s talk about the concept of a “second wind.” What’s up with that?

  1. BB & JT discuss ---

Technically, it has nothing to do with your breathing (wind) but everything to do with your glycogen as your body finds needed fuel from stores of glycogen or you wonder into ketosis when your body decides there isn’t enough glycogen for your organs and your performance that it will switch to the fat in your body as fuel source. Regardless of the inner working it becomes like a shot of energy as you are able to pick up the pace and get back in the race so to speak.

When you have you experienced this phenomenon JT?

Best to stay fueled and not rely on the “second wind.”

Bob’s final comment – It takes discipline ….

Point: DISCIPLINE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE --- in all aspects of life

Closing statement Bob…. “check out today’s show notes at bobbrubaker.com and click on the PowerBreak podcast – today’s show is 159.
