BB –  Where are those who would be like Barnabas?? Barnabas being synonymous with encourager… So who has been like Barnabas in your life?

JT answers

  1. Bob – POINT: It doesn’t take much to be an encourager, it’s something we can all need and something we can all do… It just takes stepping out of our comfort zone to reach out to someone and give them an encouraging word… It’s like it says in Proverbs…

Proverbs 18:24 (KJV) — 24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: And there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

  1. JT This is the PowerBreak Podcast, I’m JT along with Bob Brubaker and this is the  –– time for some questions and answers. Feel free to submit your questions by EMAIL TO JT@bobbrubaker.com and we’ll get to the answer on an upcoming PowerBreak. Podcast…

  1. JTQuestion ONE - FROM THE SPIRITUAL SIDE OF LIFE….

Why is it so important for us to strive to be like Barnabas?

  1. Bob

First, let’s review what made Barnabas so special. His name means the son of encouragement or you might say, “encourager.” He was known for coming along side of others, standing up for them and offering them words and solid encouragement.

Secondly, do you know of anyone who could NOT use some encouragement?

Third, the Bible is clear that we are to encourage each other, especially those who are down, because in doing so we are doing the “work of the Lord,” as He is the real encouragement behind our encouragement as we seek to encourage or comfort others.

2 Corinthians 1:3–5 (ESV) — 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 5 For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too.

Romans 12:15 (ESV) — 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.

Bottom line is that we treat others the way in which we would like to be treated…. As Jesus said,

Matthew 7:12 (ESV) — 12 “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

Proverbs 18:24 (KJV) — 24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: And there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

  1. JT – Question Two… “FROM THE MENTAL ASPECT”

What does encouraging others do for us mentally?

  1. Bob

It blesses yourself with encouragement. You cannot give without receiving, even though that is not your intention…

Luke 6:38 (ESV) — 38 give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”

Your blessing of others will be multiplied

  1. (JT) Third Question …. Turning to the physical aspect of life….

Let’s talk about the importance of rest, and in particular sleep. How important does the rest / sleep factor play in our training or physical goals?

  1. BB & JT discuss ---

Big time wouldn’t you say?

You can have the greatest training plan and make great strides but if your rest and sleep are not factored in you will hit a plateau and not go any further.

Whoop!! Illustration

Getting more sleep --- (((dark room, evening routine, warm bath or shower, cutting out blue light – vz screens, back timing to allow for adequate time to rest))

Personal illustration ---  the importance of supper

What say you JT?

Bob’s final comment – It takes discipline ….

Point: DISCIPLINE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE --- in all aspects of life
