BB&JT: Plea and thank you for ratings and review & for spreading the word via social media and word of mouth…

BB –  When and for what do you tend to procrastinate the most?

JT: ANSWER           & “How about you?

  1. Bob – POINT: Procrastination is something we all fight for one reason or another, often we procrastinate on things we’d just rather not do – and often it’s because we cannot see how we can accomplish the given task to perfection. In other words, it’s perfectionism that hinders us.

Sometimes we procrastinate because we procrastinate because of distraction – either things going on around us, things of the past, or things that could happen in the future.

Ever notice how we often miss what’s happening now because we’re so caught up in the past, or the future, or we miss things close by because we’re distracted by what’s going on elsewhere.

There is help by focusing on THE NOW! We’re calling it “The Now Factor”

2 Corinthians 6:2 (ESV) For he says, "In a favorable time I listened to you, and in a day of salvation I have helped you." Behold, now is the favorable time; behold, now is the day of salvation.

Are you saying that procrastination is a sin?

  1. Bob

Reason with me…

  1. Does God hold us accountable to good stewards with everything He gives us?
  • See Matthew 25 – parable of the talents

1 Corinthians 4:2 (ESV) — 2 Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful.

  1. Money
  2. Talent
  3. Blessings of life
  4. TIME

Ephesians 5:15–17 (ESV) — 15 Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

Psalm 90:10–12 (ESV) — 10 The years of our life are seventy, or even by reason of strength eighty; yet their span is but toil and trouble; they are soon gone, and we fly away. 11 Who considers the power of your anger, and your wrath according to the fear of you? 12 So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.

  1. Consider the Bible calls those who waste time…

Proverbs 6:6 (ESV) — 6 Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise.

Proverbs 6:9 (ESV) — 9 How long will you lie there, O sluggard? When will you arise from your sleep?

Proverbs 10:26 (ESV) — 26 Like vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to those who send him.

Proverbs 13:4 (ESV) — 4 The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.

Proverbs 20:4 (ESV) — 4 The sluggard does not plow in the autumn; he will seek at harvest and have nothing.

Proverbs 26:16 (ESV) — 16 The sluggard is wiser in his own eyes than seven men who can answer sensibly.

  • And therein lies the sin --- a sluggard (procrastinator) is full of pride because he assumes, he has tomorrow or another time to do what he knows he should do today…

Proverbs 6:16–17 (ESV) — 16 There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: 17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

  1. We are not to live without assuming we have tomorrow…

James 4:13–14 (ESV) — 13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— 14 yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.

Ephesians 5:15–17 (ESV) — 15 Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

God points out our sin in the word but we are not left without hope --- as when sin is pointed out in our lives – we are to repent (turn from it) AND FIND FORGIVENESS

Proverbs 28:13 (ESV) — 13 Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.

God saw the need for rest – and established a day of rest for us… and we recognize we all need rest but procrastination is rest gone wild and like other sinful acts where something good is overused … it takes us to a state of SIN.

  1. JT – Question Two… “FROM THE MENTAL ASPECT” –

How can a person change from a being a procrastinator?

  1. Bob

Well first of all … any change is by the grace of God as we rely upon the Spirit of God to give us the power to change in any aspect.

Secondly we rely upon the Spirit of God to give us a deeper understanding of how are days are numbered and they are few so we are to make the most of every day because none of us are assured of the future --- or even of tomorrow.

Thirdly then --- practically – learn to make a list and prioritize your “to do” list everyday…

Here there’s a difference of opinion about setting priorities among those things that are pretty equal in priority… some say start with the easiest to get momentum  and others say start with the very thing you’ve been procrastinating to overcome whatever is holding you back. Either way – just get to us NOW and stop putting off and getting distracted, and wonder where the time went.

  1. (JT) Third Question …. Turning to the physical aspect of life….
  • What are some common mistakes we all make when we try to pick up training in the winter months?

  1. Bob’s answer…
  • One of the biggest problems comes from trying to diet to take off the pounds and take advantage of a good day and increase your workout only to find out the meaning of the word: BONK!
  • Another “don’t do what I do” – is going as hard and/or as long as you did last summer. Good way to get injured!
  • Don’t judge what you do now by what you did last summer – time, strength, distance, etc.
  • Unrealistic training routines – it’s easy to come up with or copy training regimens from someone else that are too much too soon and can easily result in injury and/or discouragement
  • Watchout for peer pressure – either in keeping up with your friend’s workouts OR participating in group workouts that might be good to push you at another time of the year but not now… DON’T BE AFRAID TO SAY NO!

JT’s answer…

Bob’s final comment – It takes discipline ….

Point: DISCIPLINE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE --- in all aspects of life
