  1. JTQuestion ONE - FROM THE SPIRITUAL SIDE OF LIFE….

Why is a constant inspection of the heart so important in living a life of integrity?

  1. Bob
  • It’s easy to fool ourselves, it’s easy to fool others – but it’s impossible to fool God

Jeremiah 17:9–10 (ESV) — 9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it? 10 “I the Lord search the heart and test the mind, to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his deeds.”

Psalm 139:1–6 (ESV) — 1 O Lord, you have searched me and known me! 2 You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. 3 You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. 4 Even before a word is on my tongue, behold, O Lord, you know it altogether. 5 You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me. 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high; I cannot attain it.

Psalm 139:23–24 (ESV) — 23 Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! 24 And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!

Psalm 1:1–2 (ESV) — 1 Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; 2 but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.

Hebrews 4:12–13 (ESV) — 12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13 And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

2 Timothy 3:16–17 (ESV) — 16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

  1. JT – Question Two… “FROM THE MENTAL ASPECT” –

You mentioned in the article that integrity flows from DEPENDENCY – How can we mentally live in dependency, so we live a life of integrity?

  1. Bob
  • Think of a person who displays a lack of integrity… NOW THINK of how that person doesn’t have a clue of how desperate they and how they are missing the mark..
  • Likewise, the road to a lack of integrity begins with the steps down the road of isolation and self reliance because soon we’ll judge our actions by ourselves … and our “self justification.”

Genesis 3:11–13 (ESV) — 11 He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?” 12 The man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit of the tree, and I ate.” 13 Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this that you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

1 Corinthians 10:12 (ESV) — 12 Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.

How is your integrity?  Can others count on what you say and what you promise? Are you living up to promises made before God and others?  What about your marriage vows?  What about your church membership vows?

God expects us to be people of integrity, that rely upon Him, that fear Him, that live by His Word. In doing so there is great reward.

Psalm 19:7–11 (ESV) — 7 The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; 8 the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; 9 the fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the Lord are true, and righteous altogether. 10 More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb. 11 Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.

  1. (JT) Third Question …. Turning to the physical aspect of life….

Maybe we should have talked about this a couple of weeks ago but since it’ the holiday season when we tend to eat a little more … and get off our discipline of “good for us” food a little more than usual – WHAT CAN WE DO?

  1. Bob’s answer…

DISICIPLINE – exercise before the big meal – BECAUSE you won’t do it afterward…

For instance – BEFORE – our big thanksgiving meal I road 83 miles with the boys… and my WHOOP said I burned 3400 calories.. Hence my body was in desperate need of nourishment and so the extra I ate – I didin’t even feel full

What about you JT? What did you do Thanksgiving morning?

Bob’s final comment – It takes discipline ….

Point: DISCIPLINE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE --- in all aspects of life
