BB answers

  1. Bob – POINT: Actually, falling trap to events in the past as in regrets, mistakes, or maybe even a success that has led to pride is something we all have to work on because looking back actually will hinder us in moving forward.

Philippians 3:13–15 (ESV) — 13 Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. 15 Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you.

  1. JT ------ OK THEN LET’S TALK SOME MORE ABOUT THAT as we bring up… WHAT’S NEW –  as we open Bob’s recent blog from bobbrubaker.com …

  1. JT – “So here we go… in our time for WHAT ABOUT THIS…  –– time for some questions and answers. Feel free to submit your questions by EMAIL TO JT@bobbrubaker.com and we’ll get to the answer on an upcoming PowerBreak. Podcast…

  1. JTQuestion ONE FROM THE SPIRITUAL SIDE OF LIFE….

What are some ways that our spiritual growth and maturity is hindered by looking back?

  1. Bob

Good question JT

The first way we are hindered would be the regrets of the past – sins of the past that even though we know that we’ve confessed and forsaken them, depending upon the mercy of God to move forward – the “accuser” of the brothers – Satan himself, seems to bring it up before us as if this was a sin that God couldn’t or didn’t forgive.

1 Timothy 1:15–17 (ESV) — 15 The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost. 16 But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life. 17 To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.

Romans 8:33–34 (ESV) — 33 Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.

The second way we are hindered is by pride… as we look back at the advancement we have made or the ministry we have done… forgetting that we have nothing that has not been given to us, including the gifts and talents we have….

So the answer is either regrets or pride… either way – to look back hinders the forward progress in sanctification for a believer in Christ.

  1. JT – Question Two… “FROM THE MENTAL ASPECT” –

Is staying focused on moving forward and not looking back a mental or is it a spiritual exercise?

  1. Bob

It’s certainly mental in that you have to decide and work on your mind that you are going to remain focused no matter what on moving forward… pushing aside attempts by the past to work itself into your mind.

Since all of life is really a spiritual exercise that would mean that we see all of life an opportunity to live by faith, depending upon the work and power of the Holy Spirit… by calling upon Him and filling our  hearts and our minds with the word of God.

Putting the two together … will keep you focused and moving forward.

  1. (JT) Third Question …. Turning to the physical aspect of life….

It’s difficult in this “CoVid” time for sure … but how important is it to sign up and have an event – be it a race or a charity event scheduled?

  1. BB – Bob answers…

  • Some people don’t need it
  • Most people can use the added pressure of the challenge before them to motivate them to continue their training and push hard (no regrets)

Bob and  JT discuss  … examples

Bob’s final comment – It takes discipline ….

Point: DISCIPLINE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE --- in all aspects of life
