JT answers

  • JT – How about you? In what area of your life are you most “steadfast and immoveable?”

BB answers

  1. Bob – POINT: The Bible is clear that if we aren’t steadfast and immoveable then we’ll fall for anything and be “unstable in all our ways.”

James 1:5–8 (ESV) — 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

  1. JT ------ OK THEN LET’S TALK SOME MORE ABOUT THAT as we bring up… WHAT’S NEW –  as we open Bob’s recent blog from bobbrubaker.com …

  1. JTQuestion ONE FROM THE SPIRITUAL SIDE OF LIFE….

Why is being steadfast and immoveable so important in the spiritual side of life?

  1. Bob

Look at the difference…

Matthew 7:24–27 (ESV) — 24 “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”

1 Corinthians 15:57–58 (ESV) — 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58 Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.

1 Thessalonians 4:13 (ESV) — 13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope.

  1. JT – Question Two… “FROM THE MENTAL ASPECT” – It seems like we’re talking discipline to be steadfast and immoveable. Is it totally spiritual or is it mental?

  1. Bob

YES!

It is a spiritual discipline … but that includes “bringing our thoughts into captivity to the obedience of Christ  which of course is a grace of God found through discipline…. BUT consider from the mental side the ramifications of NOT being disciplined to be steadfast…

Ephesians 4:14 (ESV) — 14 so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.

James 1:8 (ESV) — 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

1 Corinthians 9:24–27 (ESV) — 24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. 25 Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. 26 So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. 27 But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.

  1. (JT) Third Question …. Turning to the physical aspect of life….

  1. Bob – Let me step in here and get your take on this one…

Talk about your “intermittent fasting” – how you do it and the benefits you have found….

  1. Bob’s final comment – It takes discipline ….

Point: DISCIPLINE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE --- in all aspects of life
