  1. JT – “So here we go… in our time for WHAT ABOUT THIS…  –– time for some questions and answers. Feel free to submit your questions by EMAIL TO JT@bobbrubaker.com and we’ll get to the answer on an upcoming PowerBreak. Podcast…

  1. JTQuestion ONE

What were those five questions again?

  1. Bob

  1. What was outside of my control?
  2. Did I really give my best effort?
  3. What could I have done differently?
  4. What is something good about this situation? (or “could be good)
  5. How can I come back stronger and better?

  1. JTQuestion ONE continued…

I’m pretty sure I know but why is number one in there?

  1. Bob

It’s number one for a reason. Too many times we get down on ourselves when we suffer a defeat – or we get bitter against God for allowing someone else to make life miserable for me. But God is using the circumstances or the actions of others to work on us for His purposes….

(((example of church rejection --à “Crucified by Christians ))))

God’s purposes are higher than our purposes… We seek after comfort and ease and He seeks conformity to the character of the Lord Jesus Christ and lest we forget….

Hebrews 5:8–10 (ESV) — 8 Although he was a son, he learned obedience through what he suffered. 9 And being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him, 10 being designated by God a high priest after the order of Melchizedek.

Philippians 3:7–10 (ESV) — 7 But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. 8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— 10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,

So the question…

  1. What was outside of my control?

Is very important to realize … God is working behind the scenes and so we may not be the reason for the fall or defeat …. But God  has a purpose not to beat us up… but to conform us to His Son…

CONCLUSION – We constantly have to remind ourselves that God is not finished with us NOR will He be until we go to be with Him either in death or  in the resurrection.…

  1. (JT) The next question is from a mental standpoint…

I gather these five questions are good to get a hold of things from a mental standpoint.

Building your confidence through assessment – is really mental isn’t it?

  1. (Bob)

Actually – it’s a combination of spiritual mental and physical … but yes we are talking about building confidence from defeat so it’s quite the mental exercise we’re promoting here… but it’s more than saying good things to yourself – it’s training your mind as you first submit to God spiritually and then as you assess the situation you are seeing things in a different perspective – instead of defeated and down you see it as a step of improvement.

From the mental side it really is taking a scene from life and applying

2 Corinthians 10:5 (ESV) — 5 We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,

  1. (JT) Turning to the physical aspect of life….

There are quite a few of us who are over forty now… that still want to be as competitive as possible so what can we do?

  1. Bob

Noted trainer, Chris Carmichael in a recent blog said there are five habits the over 40 crowd should observe…

  • Eat more plants than animals
  • Eat more protein than refined carbs
  • Add or increase your strength training
  • Exercise more consistently and less specifically = diversity
  • Reduce stress and increase joy

Point: DISCIPLINE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE --- in all aspects of life
