    • BB (((answer)))
  • JT – How about a general commitment level of folks from a minister’s point of view….
    • BB (((answer)))

  1. Bob – POINT: Commitment or lack thereof seems to be a part of life that makes losers on both sides of the equation – organizations and churches loose from a lack of commitment but so does the person who avoids being committed…

Luke 14:33 (ESV) — 33 So therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple.

As much as we want to avoid commitment, we should consider the consequences … and get back to pressing forward in faithfulness …

  1. JT – “So here we go… in our time for WHAT ABOUT THIS…  –– time for some questions and answers. Feel free to submit your questions by EMAIL TO JT@bobbrubaker.com and we’ll get to the answer on an upcoming PowerBreak. Podcast…

  1. JTQuestion ONE

Why does God call us to be “All IN” in our commitment to Him? Can’t we enjoy His benefits in even if we aren’t “sold out” to Him? After all it’s a matter of grace, right?

  1. Bob

Mark 12:28–31 (ESV) — 28 And one of the scribes came up and heard them disputing with one another, and seeing that he answered them well, asked him, “Which commandment is the most important of all?” 29 Jesus answered, “The most important is, ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

Romans 10:8–10 (ESV) — 8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); 9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.

Luke 14:33 (ESV) — 33 So therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple.

  • Think about the testimony of the followers of God through the ages….
  • Could anything be accomplished in a half hearted commitment?

Everyone is robbed when our commitment is anything less….

  • (((marriage illustration)))

CONCLUSION – God calls His followers --- even commands his people to be “ALL IN” – ANYTHING LESS IS ROBBING GOD? AND AS A RESULT ROBS from others including the person who is avoiding commitment… (((rich young ruler ill)))

  1. (JT) The next question is from a mental standpoint…

How do we overcome our tendency to avoid commitment?

  1. (Bob)
  • Go back to the word of God – the call to commitment is God’s call to overcome our fleshly desire to hold back from Him ((motivation)))
  • Ask God to help you be a person of real commitment and to show you where you lack commitment
  • Inventory your commitments and your lack of commitment which is really a commitment to NO COMMITMENT.
  • Consider who is losing from your lack of commitment… (((need help seeing that – talk to your pastor)))
  • Begin with renewing or making the small commitments in life and by making your commitments known to others                (((marriage before witnesses))
  • Talk to others about commitment – especially when you see someone who demonstrates a life of commitment                                 ((((pitch for PowerBreak Podcast – Interview pgrams)))

ENCOURAGEMENT; You don’t have to be stuck in a life of non-commitment – God will help you but it does take an effort to get the momentum and keep the momentum flowing ….

Philippians 3:14 (ESV) — 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

  1. (JT) Turning to the physical aspect of life….

I believe you would say that a commitment to taking care of oneself physically carries over to our spiritual commitments in life...

  1. Bob

Right on JT!!!

Proven… that’s why the physical and mental and spiritual go together…

1 Corinthians 9:24–27 (ESV) — 24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. 25 Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. 26 So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. 27 But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.

James 1:2–4 (ESV) — 2 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, 3 for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. 4 And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

Point: DISCIPLINE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE --- in all aspects of life
