  1. Bob – POINT: God is working in all of us to bring about change… we know that from how He has declared His purpose for us…

Romans 8:29–30 (ESV) — 29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.

Philippians 1:6 (ESV) — 6 And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

So when God is prompting us to change – even getting our attention through the rough edges of circumstance … it’s an evidence He is not giving up on us…

  1. JT --- I THINK WE OUGHT TO TALK to ABOUT THAT as we bring up… WHAT’S NEW – as we open Bob’s recent blog from bobbrubaker.com …

  1. JT – “So here we go… in our time for WHAT ABOUT THIS…  –– time for some questions and answers. Feel free to submit your questions by EMAIL TO JT@bobbrubaker.com and we’ll get to the answer on an upcoming PowerBreak. Podcast…

  1. JTQuestion ONE

You touched on this going into the “What’s New” segment as we talked about your blog, “To Change Or Not To Change” where you said that the rough edges of life are God’s way of calling us to make changes and those are an evidence that He has not given up on us… CAN YOU EXPLAIN?

  1. Bob

Hebrews 12:6–9 (ESV) — 6 For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.” 7 It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? 8 If you are left without discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. 9 Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live?

Romans 1:24–25 (ESV) — 24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, 25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.

2 Thessalonians 2:10–11 (ESV) — 10 and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. 11 Therefore God sends them a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false,

CONCLUSION – God is not through with you… the rough edges of life are not meant as punishment – RATHER a poke to get your attention as He calls you to make a change… WHICH change shall continue to take place until He’s through with you on earth

SO – quit fighting or RESISTING the change and conform… knowing His working in your is for your profit

  1. (JT) The next question is from a mental standpoint…

How can we encourage someone who is facing the rough edges… say from circumstances or from other people… like children or parents, or boss, or….???

  1. (Bob)

Good point! (((EXAMPLES OF CHILDREN AND/OR PARENTS)))

Everything that seem rough is God’s way of making us “uncomfortable enough to know we need to make a change”

Deuteronomy 32:9–12 (ESV) — 9 But the Lord’s portion is his people, Jacob his allotted heritage. 10 “He found him in a desert land, and in the howling waste of the wilderness; he encircled him, he cared for him, he kept him as the apple of his eye. 11 Like an eagle that stirs up its nest, that flutters over its young, spreading out its wings, catching them, bearing them on its pinions, 12 the Lord alone guided him, no foreign god was with him.

So what do you say to encourage? GOD CARES ENOUGH ABOUT YOU TO WORK ON YOUR CHARACTER about which He cares more than your comfort, although His comfort is more than just making you “comfortable.” (((EXPLAIN)))

BY THE WAY --- Every “uncomfortable situation is NOT a call to run away” not that kind of a change … because you take “you with you.” ((EXPLAIN)))

ENCOURAGEMENT; don’t give up on what God is doing in you… He hasn’t given up on you.

  1. (JT) Turning to the physical aspect of life….

How does God’s calling us to change – play out from the spiritual, through the mental --- INTO THE PHYSICAL?

  1. Bob

1 Timothy 4:8 (ESV) — 8 for while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.

1 Corinthians 9:24–27 (ESV) — 24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. 25 Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. 26 So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. 27 But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.

Point: DISCIPLINE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE --- in all aspects of life
