BB&JT: Plea and thank you for ratings and review & for spreading the word via social media and word of mouth…

BB –  We are talking today about … “Relief In Suffering” …  and usually I get JT’ take on the subject so let me ask you, what do you think of when you hear relief in suffering? Usually, we want relief total, complete, and NOW. Sometimes people never think of means that God uses to bring us relief… to be a means to a relief that may be totally different but as efficient as if He removed the cause of our suffering completely and immediately, although know that all things are possible for Him.

  1. Bob – POINT: We talked about embracing discomfort in our list podcast and this one we’re talking about an important step of faith that God has prescribed for us in finding relief in the midst of our suffering.

James 5:13–18 (ESV) — 13 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. 17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth. 18 Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit.

------ OK THEN LET’S  TALK SOME MORE ABOUT THAT as we bring up… WHAT’S NEW –  as we open my most recent blog from bobbrubaker.com …

  1. This is the PowerBreak Podcast, I’m JT along with Bob Brubaker and this is the  –– time for some questions and answers. Feel free to submit your questions by EMAIL TO JT@bobbrubaker.com and we’ll get to the answer on an upcoming PowerBreak. Podcast…

  1. Question ONE - FROM THE SPIRITUAL SIDE OF LIFE….

Why are the actions of James 5 so important to finding relief?

  1. Bob

When in doubt – follow the book, which is a demonstration of faith.

Hebrews 11:1 (ESV) — 1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

Hebrews 11:1–7 (ESV) — 1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. 2 For by it the people of old received their commendation. 3 By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible. 4 By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice than Cain, through which he was commended as righteous, God commending him by accepting his gifts. And through his faith, though he died, he still speaks. 5 By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death, and he was not found, because God had taken him. Now before he was taken he was commended as having pleased God. 6 And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. 7 By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household. By this he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.

James 2:17–20 (ESV) — 17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. 18 But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder! 20 Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless?

Luke 17:5–10 (ESV) — 5 The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!” 6 And the Lord said, “If you had faith like a grain of mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you. 7 “Will any one of you who has a servant plowing or keeping sheep say to him when he has come in from the field, ‘Come at once and recline at table’? 8 Will he not rather say to him, ‘Prepare supper for me, and dress properly, and serve me while I eat and drink, and afterward you will eat and drink’? 9 Does he thank the servant because he did what was commanded? 10 So you also, when you have done all that you were commanded, say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done what was our duty.’ ”

  1. – Question Two… “FROM THE MENTAL ASPECT”

How should we respond mentally when we face suffering?

  1. Bob

We should be driven in all aspects of life to exercise the discipline to do whatever the Bible has to say – including praying and asking for prayer, and following the steps to find relief in faith in action. These are not pointless or man-made gyrations as I said in the article, this is God’s word.

When we are overwhelmed by suffering, we feel like we’d like to take things in our own hands and bring relief. James 5 is a call to action by faith – so it brings us a sense of involvement while trusting in God to do what is best. The activities prescribed are simply doing what God has said to do as we trust in Him.

So mentally, it’s bringing our thoughts into submission to the obedience of Christ and trusting His care for us to shine through as we express our faith in carrying out what His word says to do.

  1. - Third Question …. Turning to the physical aspect of life….

What can a person do when they are injured?

BB & JT discuss ---

  • RICE = rest, ice, compression, elevation

REST is the hard part – we all like to think we can work through injuries and indeed some we can but most we end up doing more damage when we try

ICE = 20 minutes, keeping in mind It’s good to do often without FROSTBITE

COMPRESSION = ace bandage or compression garment – feels good and comforting and actually accentuates healing

ELEVATION = keeping too much blood flow and swelling down

Bob’s final comment – It takes discipline ….

Point: DISCIPLINE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE --- in all aspects of life
