BB&JT: Plea and thank you for ratings and review & for spreading the word via social media and word of mouth…

BB –  We are talking today about … “Embracing Discomfort” … So JT when have you experienced “discomfort” in your life and what did you do, or how did you handle it.

JT answers and ask Bob the same question

  1. Bob – POINT: Discomfort is not something we should try to avoid, although we do… instead we should embrace it because God is doing something very special.

James 1:2–4 (ESV) — 2 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, 3 for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. 4 And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

That is a call to cooperate or embrace discomfort

JT ------ OK THEN LET’S  TALK SOME MORE ABOUT THAT as we bring up… WHAT’S NEW –  as we open Bob’s recent blog from bobbrubaker.com …

  1. JT This is the PowerBreak Podcast, I’m JT along with Bob Brubaker and this is the  –– time for some questions and answers. Feel free to submit your questions by EMAIL TO JT@bobbrubaker.com and we’ll get to the answer on an upcoming PowerBreak. Podcast…

  1. JTQuestion ONE - FROM THE SPIRITUAL SIDE OF LIFE….

What is the key to embracing discomfort in our lives?

  1. Bob

First – Rest in the assurance that God is working in you for a purpose.

Romans 8:28–31 (ESV) — 28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. 29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 30 And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified. 31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

Secondly. – Rest assured that what God is doing or allowing in your life is necessary for your good.

1 Peter 1:6–7 (ESV) — 6 In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Thirdly – God has promises regarding what benefits are yours as you go through times of discomfort

Fourthly – God has provided in precept and example the need to apply our own self-inflicted discomfort in the form of self-denial.

Luke 9:23 (ESV) — 23 And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.

  1. JT – Question Two… “FROM THE MENTAL ASPECT”

How should we respond mentally when we face times of discomfort?

  1. Bob

By God’s grace

“bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of  Christ.”’

Rather than worry, complain, or be distraught – PRAY and enjoy peace in the midst

  1. (JT) Third Question …. Turning to the physical aspect of life….

What can a person do when they hit the wall and don’t want to workout when they know they should?

BB & JT discuss ---

I think I’ll write a blog on this in more detail in coming weeks because it applies to anything in life but I read an article by Jeff Galloway who said, when you don’t feel like working out – just convince yourself to give it five good minutes and after five minutes you want to bail OK but it’s very likely that just getting into the workout for five minutes will make you feel so good you won’t want to quit BUT because five minutes is such a small amount it’s easier to convince yourself to go for the five.

What say you JT?

Bob’s final comment – It takes discipline ….

Point: DISCIPLINE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE --- in all aspects of life

Closing statement Bob…. “check out today’s show notes at bobbrubaker.com and click on the PowerBreak podcast – today’s show is 186.
