BB –  We are talking today about  “Finding Enjoyment On The Job”

So JT What does that title bring up to your mind? ((JT ANSWERS))

  1. Bob – POINT:  Whenever we wonder if God is present, all we need to do is turn to the word of God and see that He is not only present, He has promised to always be there.

Hebrews 13:5–6 (ESV) — 5 Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” 6 So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”

  1. JTQuestion ONE - FROM THE SPIRITUAL SIDE OF LIFE….

Are you saying that sin is the cause of all stress and unhappiness in our work… and it’s NOT the people we work for or with?

  1. Bob

Good one! JT!

Yes, the root of all our problems is sin… the sin of Adam that caused the curse from pure joy and satisfaction in work to stress, anxiety, competition, etc.

Genesis 3:17–19 (ESV) — 17 And to Adam he said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, ‘You shall not eat of it,’ cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life; 18 thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field. 19 By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”

Now that curse can be helped as we apply biblical principles for living to our job situation but the bottom line is understanding that NO job is free from the ramifications of sin. Despite people claiming they have found a perfect job. Not only is there a curse upon working in general but we take ourselves and all of us have indwelling sin with which we have to deal and mortify lest it overtake us and sometimes it does bringing us into attitudes and poor choices, troublesome words, etc which makes our work lives. Misearable.

BOTTOM LINE SIN RUINS EVERYTHING.

BUT THERE IS HOPE…. Only in the Gospel of. Jesus Christ and having the power from God to apply biblical principles.

DISCUSSION

  1. JT – Question Two… “FROM THE MENTAL ASPECT”

What is an appropriate mental strategy to make the best an “unjoyful” work situation?

  1. Bob

First and foremost – seek for God’s help to be content. If you can’t find contentment where you are and just leave for another job, you will take YOU with you so you’ll need to learn contentment there. Learning contentment is not an option for a Christian and as much as you might like to be content you can’t unless God enables you to be content and He will as He teaches you contentment through experiences.

Romans 5:3–5 (ESV) — 3 Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

It’s also important to learn that you are working for the Lord Jesus Christ so you seek to do your best, which means you avoid the gossip or group complaining on how bad people think they have it.

If you decide to look for another job, remember to seek God’s wisdom and leading in the matter. The last thing you want to do is jump ship only to find troubled waters at a new job.

Discussion

  1. Third question … Turning to the Physical

If I’m in pain and I want to workout, wouldn’t it make sense to take an anti-inflammatory like ibuprofen before the workout or the event to help keep the pain away?

  1. Bob ---NOT SO FAST… it’s not so simple, in fact, you could bring on greater problems and set yourself up for more pain.

Studies that have been completed on athletes completing long distance running indicate that taking ibuprofen seems to increase pro-inflammatory markers and oxidative stress when compared to participants who did not take any. Oxidative stress increases when the body is not able to clear free radicals as quickly. Eliminating free radicals (which are essentially molecules with unpaired electrons) are the reason why people are often recommended to take anti-oxidants or consume food with a high ORAC level. When free radicals are prolific in the body, they cause cell damage.

His research showed that participants using ibuprofen had no decreased soreness when compared to non-ibuprofen users and did not have less muscle damage either. Also, because ibuprofen tends to direct more blood flow to the stomach and intestines (which normally have blood shunted away during exercise), people taking it also experienced leakage from the colon into the bloodstream causing a condition known as endotoxemia.

Not a good idea…

What say you JT?

JT comments

Bob’s final comment – It takes discipline to apply common sense to taking anything anytime for pain but it’s especially important to research before you take something to used during exercise.

Point: DISCIPLINE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE --- in all aspects of life
