BB – We are talking today about “The Danger Of Isolation”
So JT What does that title bring up to your mind? ((JT ANSWERS))
- Bob – POINT: Isolation is an easy trap but the results are not good. We need other people and other people need us. Otherwise how could we fulfill the “one another”s in the Bible?
Philippians 2:3–4 (ESV) — 3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. 4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
- JT ------ OK THEN LET’S TALK SOME MORE ABOUT THAT as we bring up… WHAT’S NEW – as we open Bob’s recent blog from bobbrubaker.com …

- JT – Question ONE - FROM THE SPIRITUAL SIDE OF LIFE….
If the Bible is clear about the need isolating ourselves, what do we say to people who do?
- Bob & JT discuss
Sadly, we have to tell them that they are violating what is made clear in Scripture. You can’t fulfill the over 24 “one -another”s in the NT … without being part of the church and not just in membership but in reality.
Hebrews 10:19–25 (ESV) — 19 Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, 20 by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
You can’t deny it – we are called to be part of the local church as part of the body of Christ. To neglect that is SIN. That means that we need to be part of the body and really part of the body through participation.
Notice the tie in of the work of Christ and the partipation of the body of Christ as in the “us” and the “one another.” The two go together.
- JT – Question Two… “FROM THE MENTAL ASPECT”
How can we overcome the pull toward isolationism, where we just want to be by ourselves?
Here’s a fact --- Centurions – those who have lived past 100 have a unique quality of life in that they are part of a community of people. In other words being active in community helps you live longer. Or to put it anotherway, ISOLATION kills!
You don’t want that… and that is why God established marriage, the family, and the church. WE need community and God has provided a way to benefit from community as we seek to benefit others.
- Third question … Turning to the Physical
Let’s help those who have been involved in a running program but things have become a little stale and the have lost their motivation. Any ideas?
- Bob & JT discuss
Thanks to Dean Karnazes and Hammer nutrition for some really good tips to get your running program going again.
By the way, Dean Karnazes is an ultra runner extrodinaire…. Have completed some really remarkable events… like 50 marathons in 50 days in 50 states….
Here are some tips from Dean as found at www.hammernutrition.com
- Get a new pair of running shoes --- talk to a professional who can get you fitted in the exact shoe.
- Pick up some new apparel - Nothing like something new to get you going.
- Sign up for an event – always gets you motivated
- Organize or reorganize your nutrition program --- pre- during – post workouts – it will get you going.
Any other thoughts JT?
Bob’s final comment – It doesn’t take much but as Dean Karnazes points out … new things plus discipline will have you back on the road and reaping the benefits of running again.
Point: DISCIPLINE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE --- in all aspects of life
