BB – We are talking today about … “The Righteous Judge”…
So JT What does that title bring up to your mind?
- Bob – POINT: There are times when we welcome the thought of God being the righteous judge – especially when we are concerned that the wicked are not getting what we think they deserve. However, as you consider the God as the righteous judge keep in mind that He always does what is right, including showing mercy…
Genesis 18:23–26 (ESV) — 23 Then Abraham drew near and said, “Will you indeed sweep away the righteous with the wicked? 24 Suppose there are fifty righteous within the city. Will you then sweep away the place and not spare it for the fifty righteous who are in it? 25 Far be it from you to do such a thing, to put the righteous to death with the wicked, so that the righteous fare as the wicked! Far be that from you! Shall not the Judge of all the earth do what is just?” 26 And the Lord said, “If I find at Sodom fifty righteous in the city, I will spare the whole place for their sake.”
- JT ------ OK THEN LET’S TALK SOME MORE ABOUT THAT as we bring up… WHAT’S NEW – as we open Bob’s recent blog from bobbrubaker.com …

- JT – Question ONE - FROM THE SPIRITUAL SIDE OF LIFE….
How are we to connect the two – God as the righteous judge .. and God as the merciful and kind One who is willing to spare a nation on account of just a few righteous people?
- Bob & JT discuss
God’s attributes are never really easy to comprehend…
Isaiah 55:8–9 (ESV) — 8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
So yes, God is the righteous judge and God is also merciful… as best expressed by Abraham…
Instead of taking a front row seat and seeing how bad Sodom would get the fiery judgment of God, Abraham takes to interceding. Notice out of a very large city, he pleads on behalf of possibly 50 righteous. Upon what did he center his pleading? “Shall not the judge of all the earth do what is just?” God is the Righteous Judge, perfect in all His ways so you know His judgment is fair and just. In fact Abraham goes on to plead all the way down to just ten righteous and God assures him that if there were just ten righteous that He would not judge the city.
2 Peter 3:8–10 (ESV) — 8 But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.
Revelation 20:11–15 (ESV) — 11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. 13 And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. 14 Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
- JT – Question Two… “FROM THE MENTAL ASPECT”
Wouldn’t a consideration of God as a righteous judge keep us mentally from engaging with Him?
- Bob & JT discuss
Not if we apply all we know about Him as a righteous judge…
- Yes it should make us stop in our tracks to know that God knows all about us… and the account is being kept so that even every idle word can and will be used against us. WHOA!
- But yes, God is a merciful and kind judge – who sent His Son to take away our sins… so our punishment is placed upon the Lord Jesus Christ.
- (JT) Third Question …. Turning to the physical aspect of life….
Let’s talk about REST AND RECOVERY DAYS as part of training.
First, Bob – do you schedule in rest and recovery in your training schedule?
- Bob and JT discuss…
- Bob answers then asks JT the same..
- JT Answers
Bob: Like anything in life if you want the benefits --- PUT IT ON YOUR SCHEDULE
Let’s talk benefits of taking time to rest and recover…
By resting and recovering properly, you effectively:
- allow your muscles to repair and thus become stronger.
- minimize your risk of overuse injuries.
- minimize your risk of mental burnout.
- avoid getting dumped by family and friends. This may not be strictly medical, but is surely an important consideration!
Taking a day off – alternating your training – alternate training
Bob’s final comment – It takes discipline ….
Point: DISCIPLINE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE --- in all aspects of life
