The security of the believer in the Lord Jesus Christ is described in a variety of ways, but none so strong as a fortress as found in Romans 8:34.
Romans 8:34 (ESV) — 34 Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.
Consider please the offices of the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the judge, Who will judge the world at the final judgment. He is also our defense attorney, as our Great High Priest. He is also our advocate with the Father, Who is continually praying for us. But even greater, He is our Savior, Who died for us, by Whom we are adopted in the family of God. But wait, there is more. He is our coheir as we are told that we shall share in His inheritance as joint heirs of all that is due Him.
Is there anyone that can issue a guilty sentence against one for whom Christ died?
The Father has committed judgment to the Son and appointed Him as the final judge.
John 5:22 (ESV) — 22 For the Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son,
Acts 17:30–31 (ESV) — 30 The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent, 31 because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead.”
As the Lord Jesus Christ assumes His role as judge, we see that He makes a distinction between those who are and those who aren’t in the Lamb’s book of life.
Revelation 20:11–15 (ESV) — 11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. 13 And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. 14 Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15 And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
Just consider then the logic behind Romans 8:34, considering the facts above as Jesus, the judge.
Romans 8:34 (ESV) — 34 Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.
Will He condemn one for whom He died? One for whom He represents before the throne of God? One for whom He is praying? One for whom He was their propitiation, satisfying the wrath of God?
1 John 4:10 (ESV) — 10 In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
1 Corinthians 15:3–4 (ESV) — 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, 4 that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,
Consider then, the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, as Paul presents irrefutable evidence in the witnesses that would testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. If He is risen from the dead, His sacrifice for our sins is accepted and so are we.
Ephesians 1:6–7 (KJV) — 6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. 7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
And what is our risen savior doing now? He is at the Father’s right hand where He ever lives to make intercession for us, while He prepares a place for us where we will live with Him in the paradise of God forever.
Hebrews 7:24–25 (ESV) — 24 but he holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever. 25Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.
John 14:1–3 (ESV) — 1 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.
Lastly, consider the stability of our Lord Jesus Christ in that He does not change, will not give up on us, and will keep us secure forever.
Hebrews 13:8 (ESV) — 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
John 10:27–30 (ESV) — 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.”
Romans 8:38–39 (ESV) — 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Rejoice in our marvelous Savior who would dare anyone or anything to condemn us!
Godspeed,
