Trusting God

  By  |

As a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, you possess everything that you will need in this life including an invincible refuge from the enemy to a certain hope of eternity. Just consider these words:

Hebrews 6:17–20 (ESV) — 17 So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath, 18 so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us. 19 We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, 20 where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.

As sure as that anchor for the soul is, there is more as God gives us every reason to trust Him through life and everything that life presents to us. Consider the words of the Lord Jesus Christ:

John 10:27–30 (ESV) — 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.”

John 6:38–40 (ESV) — 38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me. 39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. 40 For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.”

John 6:63 (ESV) — 63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.

John 14:1–3 (ESV) — 1 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.

Needless to say, we could fill books with the words of the Lord Jesus Christ, and we know that His words give us every reason to trust Him; thereby trusting God for every situation just as Proverbs reminds us:

Proverbs 3:5–6 (ESV) — 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

As much as we would like to just put forth the effort in trusting the Lord with all our heart, we can’t unless the Spirit of God moves in our hearts to bring life and reach out to God. Our reaching out, as God reaches in our hearts, is simply the completion of his work within us.

Philippians 2:12–13 (ESV) — 12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.

Thanks be to God for working in you according to His good pleasure! This affirms the fact that He takes pleasure in working in you, including presenting you with an opportunity to trust Him. He gives you every reason to trust Him as you see in His word. As you trust Him, you exalt Him as being trustworthy, especially as you prove Him to be true to His word. Oh, the benefits of trusting in the Lord!

Psalm 37:3–5 (ESV) — 3 Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. 4 Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. 5 Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.

Isaiah 26:3–4 (ESV) — 3 You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. 4 Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.

Psalm 115:11 (ESV) — 11 You who fear the Lord, trust in the Lord! He is their help and their shield.

Proverbs 29:25 (ESV) — 25 The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe.

It is important to know the word of God through reading, studying, memorizing, and meditating upon the word because each moment you spend, your heart is filled with confidence in His word which leads to trusting Him and enjoying all the benefits that trusting Him brings. Just consider the power of trusting God in anything that comes your way in life.

Romans 8:35–39 (ESV) — 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.” 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Our confidence is in the Lord; therefore, we trust Him and there is nothing better than trusting Him.

Godspeed,
