So JT What does that title bring up to your mind? ((JT ANSWERS))

  1. Bob – POINT:  We all hit the wall in our walk with and service to God… The question is: ARE WE GOING TO STAY THERE, OR GET BACK IN THE RACE?

Micah 7:8 (ESV) — 8 Rejoice not over me, O my enemy; when I fall, I shall rise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord will be a light to me.

  1. JTQuestion ONE - FROM THE SPIRITUAL SIDE OF LIFE….

You brought up “hitting the wall” spiritually – is that what is called “backsliding?”

  1. Bob
  • It’s NOT there yet, but it can lead into backsliding…
  • The first thing to go in the life of person who is backsliding is the adherence to spiritual disciplines…
  • Once those basics are neglected then there seems to come a downward spiral into sin and more neglect, avoidance and walking away.
  • At that point there is little difference between a backsliding Christian and an apostate – who is one who never had spiritual life to begin with.
  • The important difference between a backsliding Christian and an apostate --- is repentance. Somewhere between hitting the wall and death --- the true Christian will be given grace to repent. Only to regret time lost in their neglect and application of God’s means of grace to get back in the race.

DISCUSSION

  1. JT – Question Two… “FROM THE MENTAL ASPECT”

What is an appropriate mental strategy when you hit the wall?

  1. Bob

Like anything that happens in life – Hitting the wall is meant to test us, strengthen us, and prepare us for the future. So DON’T GIVE INTO THE SURPRISE AND JUST QUIT.

In fact,  your daily disciplines give you exactly what you need to go through the wall. So the daily disciples of seeking to be close to God and live an in a dependent way …. also are the very things to which you turn to get back in the race.

Romans 5:3–5 (ESV) — 3 Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

Think about an experience you have had in the past which caused you to want to just throw in the towel and quit BUT  you persevered and made it through the experience.

James 1:2–4 (ESV) — 2 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, 3 for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. 4 And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

Discussion

  1. Third question … Turning to the Physical

Water or Hydration Drink – that is the question? Which is better?

  1. Bob & JT discuss

The one you will drink when you are exercising.

That sounds too easy but the bottom line is that you need to drink while exercising so whatever you will drink – have it available and drink it.

Obviously, if you are a strict water drinker, then you need to make sure you get your electrolytes in another form. And probably also need to make sure you are doing something to keep your GI track interested.

Learning the hard way on that trying to do and Ironman race one time drinking all water but not taking in any electrolytes and ending up with hyponatremia where I took in plenty of water but it stayed in my gut. Bad idea Bob!

If you are drinking nothing but water, it’s also important to make sure it’s cool enough in temperature because consistently giving your gut lukewarm water will induce vomiting.

But that is important for anything you drink --- when it becomes warm it’s not good if you are taking it in while exercising, unless of course it’s cold outside BUT then the fluid in your water bottle would tend to chill.

Any other thoughts JT?

Bob’s final comment – It takes discipline to why you are exercising, and how you are moving toward those goals … and tweeking how much you are devoting to exercise.

Point: DISCIPLINE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE --- in all aspects of life
