Recap of the 2019 Ride

The One Breath From Death – Look What God Can Do Ride Across FL – 2019

We are most grateful for our sponsors this year: Orthopaedic Associates Of West Florida, Tri and Run of West Orange, and Hammer Nutrition.

It looked like we were going to have 14 riders join us this year but life happens and a broken wrist, cases of flu, severe cramped muscles, and scheduling conflicts narrowed the list to just eight riders and once again God blessed us with a great group of guys who worked hard, did not complain, and watched out for one another. The weather was great. We rode the first fifty miles on Friday with a 14 mph tailwind from Melbourne Beach to St. Cloud. The wind continued to push us along through Kissimmee to Davenport where we spent the night.

The second day was filled with lower amounts of wind but again we experienced beautiful weather for riding. We rode from Davenport to Dade City, to San Antonio (FL) where we experienced a few significant hills, then on to Spring Hill and down the Suncoast trail to the trailhead of the Upper Tampa Trail at Lutz Lake Fern Road.

The total distance was over 190 miles.

Our thanks to my wife Jan Brubaker and her help in organizing hotel deals, meals, and the party at the end. She had great help from Denise Nagel along the way and from Patsy Stills, Wendy Pohlman, Barbie SanSouci, Megan Garcia, and Jamie Dalton at the finish.

Our riders this year included, Alex Garcia, Glen Nagel, Dave SanSouci, Steve Pohlman, Marc Van Ripper, Sebastian Hernadez, Jed Stills, and Bob Brubaker. We were thankful to have David Whiddon join us on the first day but had a conflict for the second day and Howard Feingold rode from the finish line up the trail to meet us when we arrived at the Suncoast Trail to see us to the end.

Sadly, our co-founder of the ride, Danny Dalton broke his wrist a few weeks prior to the ride and was unable to ride. However, Danny supported the crew with words of encouragement at the beginning and end of the race. We look forward to him joining us next year.

Speaking of 2020 we are working on a map adjustment to add miles on to the first day going as far a Dade City, approximately 120 miles so we can finish next year in Clearwater Beach.
