The 2018 “One Breath From Death” Celebration Ride

Melbourne Beach to North Tampa

April 13 & 14 (two-day event)

THE RULES

  • This is a “no rider left behind” ride, although we request that riders who sign up to ride should be able to hold an 18-20 mph pace and have some experience with group rides as well as distance rides.
  • Riders who “feel the need for speed” can exercise their option to speed up – we just ask you to wait at the next intersection to regroup.
  • Aid stations are convenient stores along the way where there will be a variety of hydration and nutritional choices.
  • Getting there…
    • The start at Melbourne Beach
      • Option One – Drive over with your family, spend the night if you desire, and a family member can drive your car to the finish
      • Option Two – In the past several years, riders have pooled resources to rent a one-way van to the start.
    • Hotel – Hampton Inn – all gear will be transported from the start to the over night hotel and to the finish. We will car pool to a local restaurant for a well-deserved dinner. (hotel info on website bobbrubaker.com)
    • The Finish – Upper Tampa Trailhead (West Lutz Lake Fern Road) – friends and/or family meeting you. There will be a party, so we need a count of how many to expect at the finish.

The Opportunity

  • We have one sponsor and are working on others to help defray some of the costs
  • There will be an official ride bike kit featuring sponsor logos – order information will be sent to each rider
  • We’ll provide nourishment and hydration at the start and finish of each day, otherwise make use of convenient stores.

Note we are using the marking along the route from the Ride Across FL event as much as possible, but we understand that on long rides we can get zoned-out.  Here are some places of issue:

  • Don’t miss the turn from SR192 to Delaware Ave.  There is a traffic light at this intersection.
  • Right after you turn on Delaware take the one road before the last.  Do not go all the way to the end of Delaware.
  • From Clay St you need to make a left at the light to cross the train tracks then the very next right to Old Tampa Hwy.
  • When you get to Osceola / Polk line you will be making the next left BEFORE the train tracks.  Old Tampa Hwy is hard to see, so look for the markings and remember that it is before the train tracks.

2nd Day –  approximately 110 miles

  • US 27 from Hampton Inn to Dean Still Road
  • W S Dean Still Rd. 25.4 – name changes to Rockridge Rd.

The One Breath From Death – Celebration Ride Across Florida

Melbourne Beach to Tampa Bay

The riders will be wearing a custom bike kit (jersey and shorts) and the design allows for two sponsorship opportunities:

$500 level – receive a prominent place on the front and back of the jersey and at least one place on the shorts, plus a jersey to display.

$200 level – receive a place on the back of the jersey plus a jersey to display.

Your logo will be seen as we ride across Florida, and as riders wear their kits throughout the next year.
