Bob’s Annual Ride

Come ride with us…across Florida.

If you would like to ride with us or would like more information – send Bob Brubaker an email. This will make sure you get follow up emails.

Things are moving along for our ride across FL on April 13th and 14th – Starting at Melbourne Beach and stopping for the night at “Main Gate” – which is I-4 & US 27 then continuing the next day to North Tampa where the North Tampa trail meets the Suncoast trail.

You are NOT obligated to stay where we have made arrangements but here’s what we have – of course if you can find a better place, go for it:

  • Thursday, April 12 – Double Tree Hilton Melbourne Beach Oceanfront – 321-723-4222  (unable to secure a special rate; get the best rate you can by being a Hilton Honors Member – )

1665 N. SR A1A  Melbourne FL  32903

We plan to arrive April 10 for a bit of R&R

  • Friday, April 13 – Hampton Inn Orlando – Maingate South (863) 420-9898– call hotel directly and request the One Breath from Death room rate of $149.

44117 Hwy 27 Davenport FL 33897

Both locations have plenty of hotels if this is not suitable – no worries.

You are on your own to find transportation to the starting point – at the corner of US 192 and A1A in Melbourne Beach, and from the finish line in North Tampa. Your overnight gear and additional bike & nutritional needs will be transported to the overnight hotel as well as the finish line for you.

In the past, guys have connected to rent a one way van to the start and made arrangements with a friend or family to pick them up at the finish. With the number of riders this year, it may mean there are a couple of vans to be organized. Please ask around via the emails on this list.

Of course if your family wants to join you at the finish, the mid-point and the finish line.

Jan and I will be spending the week in Melbourne Beach prior to the ride to reward her for her efforts in support and to celebrate  her birthday.

If there is anyone who wants to go a little further and actually ride your bicycle all the way to Clearwater, no problem. We’ll transport your gear to a pre-determined connecting point. By the way, it’s probably about 25 miles farther and we’ll have done 100 miles on the second day.

Nutrition and Hydration

I’ll have Hammer “Heed” and water for us at the start of each day as well as Hammer “Recoverite” and water at the end of each day. Otherwise, you are your own to plan for your nutrition and hydration, knowing we’ll be stopping at convenient stores along the route.

The route

We’ll pick up the official “Ride Across FL” route outside of St. Cloud and follow that to US 27 where we’ll ride south 1 mile to the overnight hotel. On Saturday we’ll return to Dean Stills road and follow the RAF route to US 98 which is where we’ll deviate just a bit and stay on US 98 to US301 just a short way, then back on the RAF route until we get to Spring Hill at which time we’ll jump on the Suncoast Trail and take it to the trailhead of the Upper Tampa Trail. (Or if you are a brave soul and want some additional pain, going on to Clearwater via the upper Tampa trail, Skyway park, the Courtney Campbell trail, etc.)

We are looking forward to a great ride this year. Feel free to email, text, or call me with any questions.
